Hey guys, i just purchased the M1330 from dfsdirect.ca

I got a M1330, C2D2.0ghz, 1gig ram, "LED display (NO WEBCAM), vista prem., 9 cell battery, gforce card all for 1300$ WITH tax.

It was a sorta of a good deal so i jumped on it. However, how do I know that this screen that I have is the LED type??? I seem to enjoy my 799$ HP laptop screen a tad more than this. I'm not sure why..is there a program I can use to check to see if this is infact the LED screen?? I need to verify this.

I also found the hard drive to be a little loud when searching for files or scanning for viruses. I'm planning to ask dell to give me a replacement hard drive..but from past experiences, doesnt seem that they have quiet hard drives?

Have any other M1330 owners experienced this?

are there any HARD DRIVES for laptops recommended that is QUIET????

    Thanks!!

In order to find out what screen you have.
show desktop-->right click on personalise-->display settings-->click on advanced settings-->hit the monitor tab--->click on properties-->hit the details tab-->drag down in the box to the Hardware ID's.

This will tell you what monitor that you have. I have the Toshiba monitor and my part number is LCD2306. Also if you to go Dell website and enter in your service tag it should list your full specs for you.

Hitachi drives are notorious for being the loudest drives. Seagate are meant to be ok. Samsung, Fujitsu and Western Digital are meant to make the most quiet drives. I have used a WD HD before it was a Pata drive and not Sata and i was not to impressed with it. I have a Samsung drive in my XPS M1330 and it really quite quiet. Once in a while it make a clicking noise but other than that i don't hear a peep out of it. I have a 5400rpm HD i don't know which type you have. 7200RPM drives are a bit louder than 5400rpm drives normally. SSD drives are the most quiet HD's of all though.

This site is pretty useful as well for finding out information about quiet HD's.

So your screen is the normal LCD not LED?

can anyone gave the info of what an LED screen should have in the hardware ID?

Also, i'll check my HD later. Do you know if Dell uses both the SAMSUNG or Hitatchi for the M1330? it seems frustrating that some get the better hard drive while some people get the loud hitatchi!!!!

I just got a replacement with a samsung and my old one had the hitachi. The difference in the accessing clicking is indredible. Definately go for the samsung if you can.

I GOT THE HITACHI drive =( it is loud. Well, hopefully dell will ship a replacement HD for me.

Thanks for the tips about the samsung drive. I DO NOT want to pay extra to buy one myself!

Also my screen is LCD2306 like the one the member stated. From his tag it sounds like he got the LED so i'm guessing mine is too?

    thanks!

All you have to do to tell an LED from an LCD is to push into the screen. If the image distorts in a liquidy fashion, you have an LCD.
