I know that HDMI 1.3 can support the Dell 3007 (2560x1600) with a suitable HDMI-->DVI converter, does anybody know if the M1330 can do it? Specs for the Nvidia 8400M GS (nvidia website) say it is capable through a dual-link DVI port.

If anybody is using this laptop to drive a large screen (even 1920x1200) would love to hear your thoughts about it.

Max res the LCD will display will be 1200 x 800.

I think the only Dell laptop that will support dual link as of now is the M1730.

Not necessarily...your output isn't limited to the native resolution of the internal LCD screen. But in the specific case of the 3007, yes...if you cannot support the full resolution you are limited to 1280x800 because of the monitor's capabilities (not the laptop's).

nVidia says it supports up to that resolution with the dual-link DVI connection. But, it is up to the vendors (Dell, HP, etc) to actually use the dual-link portion of the GPU circuit and use a dual-link connector in the laptop chassis.

That being said, I do not think the M1330 was advertised as a dual-link machine...so unless you can find an explicit reference on Dell's website I'd wager you'll be limited to 1920x1200 (max for single-link DVI).

I'll say it again-I have the LCD...

Max res it will display on Dell 3007 WFP is 1200x800 unless you have dual dvi output on the laptop.

you could have higher res than 1200x800 in your external LCD for sure. i'm using DELL 22" 1680x1050 with vostro 1400 which only has X3100 video card.

There's difference between your lcd and mine.

Mine is only supported by dual dvi for native resolution.

At single dvi, it will only display at 12x8=which is half of native. I looked into this before I bought it (got it since the price was too good to pass).

do you have yours on extended desktop? if you are just replicating the same desktop on the external LCD, you will be stuck with 1200x800.

if you used extended desktop then you could go higher res, though I'm uncertain on what the max is.

I currently use it on my M90 w/ dock station.

I tried go w/ OP is going for, researched, contacted Dell, but as far as I found out, there can't be much done about it.

To get native resolution out of 3007 you need dual dvi supported GPU.

    Thats quite odd.

I never had any problems with driving larger displays when you 'extend' your desktop.

I dont see why the HDMI -> DVI to your 3007 wont run native. Currently runing 1680 x 1050 on my 22, and I have seen options allowing me to drive the monitor all the way up to 2560x1600 ++ (but I have to scroll the screen since native for my 22 is 1680 x 1050)

Cloning will limit you to the max rez of your built-in display.

Even my old 630m with the integrated intel950 drives up to 1680x1050 and higher.

All i've got both the 3007HC and the 2407HC

    The XPS-M1330 can only display 1280 * 800 on the 3007
and will go up yo 1920 * 1200 on the 2407

There is NO WAY to get the 3007 to display 1920 * 1200 on the XPS-M1330
(i know it does it on my 8800GTX, but it does not on the M1330)

    So Achilles is right......

Only Dell laptop that supports dual dvi is M1730.

Not sure if the new M6300 (not sure if this is the model #) supports it or not.

Hi, I'm having m1330 HDMI compatibility issues with my Westinghouse 24" monitor... and I think my issue is relevant to any monitor with a resolution over 1080p (1920 x 1080). Basically, when using HDMI -> HDMI at 1920 x 1200 I get blurry text and washed out colors as if I'm not using native resolution. Initially I thought I had a defective HDMI cable, but after testing a new cable today I had the same problems. After some research I believe this is due to the m1330's HDMI port because it is probably below HDMI 1.3 which means it supports a MAX of 1808p resolution. Just so you know here's what I've tested:

    1. m1330 HDMI out on a 20" monitor (works perfectly @ 1680 x 1050)
    2. m1330 VGA out on the Westy 24" (works perfectly @ 1920 x 1200 resolution)
    3. DVI -> HDMI on the Westy 24" using another PC (works perfectly @ 1920 x 1200)

Can other people confirm this? If it's true then I'm disappointed the m1330's HDMI is not 1.3, and I guess I'll be using VGA out...

I've hooked up my M1330 to a Polaroid 19" LCD TV through HDMI and have the same blurry text problem as you. But hooking it up through the VGA port on my M1330 and the TV makes the picture a heck of a lot clearer.

kozzney, what was the natural res of your 19" polaroid? I'm guessing that you were outputting 1680x1050 (typical for a 19" widescreen monitor) which might not be the natural res of your LCD TV -- I think LCD TVs have different natural resolutions from a similar sized monitor because HDTVs are 16:9 ratio whereas monitors are 16:10. If that's the case then you just need to make sure you're outputting the natural res of your LCD TV.

Which nVidia drivers are you using for those who have VGA hooked up to an external display?
