I have looked around posts and reviews and I am still confused.

Some people seem to mention the LED display lid is metal, while some say it is plastic???

Is the cover metal or plastic on the 1330???

The dell website state magnesium alloy outer shell for the lid, I bought my one with LED screen expecting to get a metal outer shell. So why are people now saying theirs is plastic, I want a metal out shell for the screen, not some cheap plastic?

I assumed the outer shell was metal and the inside part was plastic.

It feels like plastic to me, especially compared to the bottom chassis is which actually mag-alloy.

It's not cheap. I can see how some would think it's metal - I'd probably be inclined to agree if Dell confirmed it was. It just doesn't quite feel like the bottom of the chassis though.

The thing is, if you go to the Dell website, and you get to the section where it gives you the 360 view of the laptop, and you can select the other images of the notebook, where it shows you the ports, and has text outlining the features. It will show a picture of the LED lid and say it is a magnesium alloy outer shell.

Hopefully the link will take you to the page I mean, click on the little "+" sign in the image up top to bring you views you can select. press on them and you will see what I mean. It is the second image after the 360 view button.

The lid consists of several parts glued together. Top portion, where Wifi antennas are located, is definitely plastic. The portion under the Dell symbol actually looks like metal from the inside. So my guess that under the color layer, it's actually metal.

I just want to know that the lid is going to stand up to the little bangs and bashes a notebook will get carrying it around everyday in either a padded bag or backpack.

My 700m I carry everyday and it has a plastic lid and stands up to constant little bashes it gets being carried around, but it also has a thicker lid than the LED lid on the M1330.

I just want to know my $3000 Aussie dollar investment is going to last (even with my 3 years total cover warranty)

I think a lot of people confuse the feeling of magnesium and plastic. The only way to really know is to look at it from the backside which someone has already done on the m1330.

BTW, the lid (everything except the area covering the WiFi antennas) on the 700m is magnesium.
