I have black Memorex CD-R's and tried loading them into the optical drive but it doesn't read them. I tried many other CD-R's (different brands and not black) and had no problem. I also tried the black Memorex CD's on another computer and they loaded fine so I don't see an issue with the CD's.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Does anyone know of a compatibility issue with using black CD's on the m1330 optical drive?

I don't think this is a serious issue since I can just stop using black cd's but i don't want problems arising in the future in case there is a problem with my optical drive.

    Thanks!

Funny that, I am also having that problem. The disc spins up, clicks and then spins down. This happens three times before the drive gives up and stops trying.
If you find a fix, post here!

At a guess, the bulk bought budget drives they put in the machines might not be able to read/write through the fancy discs darker coating.

Although to be fair to Dell, who really cares if their discs are black?!

    ...

Did I just sound terribly 'e-sist'?

so if you happen to have software on black discs you're out of luck? such as, for example, Old PS1 discs which never came in any other colour..

perhaps it's just a case of changing the drive settings? i know that PS2 Discs used to not work on my old Desktop unless i forced the CD drive to spin faster than it wanted to (the PS2 discs were essentially watermarked CD's, with less Data-Density, so a drive wouldn't read them without spinning faster than a normal CD).

theres loads of free programs on the web that let you change the CD Spin speed, perhaps try setting it a little higher than normal and seeing if the discs work?
