Would it make sense to buy the Dell XPS M1330 over the Inspiron 1420 just because the XPS has fingerprint scanner which to me I like those kind of things. But other than that I think the Inspiron beats it cheaper, bigger but the XPS does have HDMI and DVI which I do not need because I will as in buying a LCD HDTV soon for my PS3 and I am going to only use it for PS3 not the laptop. And obviously I know all of you think the XPS is more stylish then the Inspiron but I am asking would it make sense to buy it really because the fingerprint scanner because I am tired of keeping passwords and everything, did any of you guys do this or should I just go and buy the 1420?

And also I dont think the Inspiron 1420 has the LED screen does that make a difference or should I not worry about it because I am really reconsidering the M1330 but still I dont like the price.

Prodigy, I've seen the system firsthand and based on my previous laptop, the M50 from Toshiba, I recommended going with it. I know that the specs are similar to the 1420 but with the LED screen and some of the other upgrades, the m1330 is the best laptop I've ever seen. I also have one for sale if you're interested, just wanted to throw that in.

1420 is also heavier ;) If mobility is important to you, u'll appreciate 4lb weight compared to 5+ on 1420 in the long run :D

Well I haven't checked out any Toshiba laptops (although the ones from the best buy commercials look cool glossy black with a big toshiba logo) I have only looked into Dells so far. And the 1420 and 1330 are the only ones that interest me. And I havent been able to find the M50 Toshiba can u give me a link? And with the 1330 I have never owned a laptop would 13.3" be big enough for me I am mostly gonna use it in my room but would those extra .8 inches (1420 is 14.1") make it seems a whole lot bigger?

and anyone else be free to recommend me a laptop, thanks

The statelitte M50 was released a few years ago. Mine is two years old and was rated as a editor's choice award from pcmag. The link is: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1845332,00.asp. To be clear I'm not recommending you purchase the device, only that the form factor is similar to the 1420, both bing 14 inches and ~5 pounds.

Having made the transition myself from 14 to 13, it really hasn't made a noticeable difference. I don't do much video editing or excel work so there really hasn't a significant drop off. The mobility has more than made up for it in my view.

Yes but you see I am now toggled between the XPS M1330 and Inspiron 1420.....again.

Inspiron - Cheap, Bigger Screen, More Modern Usage Laptop

XPS - More Expensive, Smaller Screen, More Features, fingerprint scanner, More of a complex kind of gaming laptop (im not a gamer i only play consoles as PS3)

oh and by the way can you only buy Dells online or can you go to the Dell store and buy em or possibly go to a place like best buy and buy them in store so is that possible or online only?

depends on your cash constraints and your needs. the inspiron provides more bang for the buck (i honestly don't consider bigger screen a valid argument since you you could argue the same for the 1520 vs. the 1420... it depends on what size your looking for)

for just the finger print reader i wouldnt. the way your writing it sounds like your intent on the inspiron but the features of the xps are still nagging at you.

if you have the money and the time (to wait for it to ship =p) i would go for the XPS but again it depends on your usage and YOUR needs

last time i checked bestbuy, futureshop, etc don't retail dells (i heard this was changing soon though). Go to a dell kiosk to check them out in person

So I wont really notice the difference between a 13.3" screen and a 14.1" screen? But what I like about the XPS screen is the LED and the Inspiron doesnt have that feature. And also once I add all the good stuff on the Inspiron such as the webcam, best processor, and best screen that you can have with the Inspiron it will probably add up to the same price as the Inspiron. but keep in mind that I wont be buying a laptop for a couple months I just want to which one before hand so I dont have to be in this situation.

The Inspiron is a modern day laptop when the XPS is a more exiting laptop that has a lot of features. I dont know Im 50-50 on it.

The m1330 has that Elitist sort of feeling. Yes, you're going to pay more when compared to a similarly configured 1420; but it's worth it...

I found it really hard to choose between the M1330 and the 1420. The Fingerprint scanner looked really cool. In the end I went for the Vostro 1400 (So I could at least be a little bit elitist). Also I'm really pedantic about looks - and didn't want to risk having the nice shiny silver paint on the inspiron rubbing off (Another bonus of the M1330's nice brushed metal design).

If you do go for the cheap model, make sure you fully spec it out (Travel remote - Vista Ultimate etc) So you don't feel like you're missing out on heaps of nifty things.

Plus I reckon I could safely roll my Vostro down a flight of stairs without as much grief as I would have with the M1330.

fyi, M1330 doesn't have DVI it has VGA

I really love my M1330. The reason I chose this over the 1520, or the 1420 was simply, the weight. If you're going to be travelling, walking, going anywhere with your laptop on your back you're going to want something light and simple. I coulnd't imagine carrying a 6 pound weight in addition to my books when i go to class. The XPS's 4.5lb weight is amazing, It's the size of a binder, which fits perfectly in my backpack
