EDIT: Full UPEK suite is available for all current Windows versions, at K-byte's web site, which allows me to encrypt/decrypt in Vista X64, so I do not need XP x86 to do so, anymore.

I saw (from Trebuin?) the post about using the IBM drivers for the fingerprint reader.

I tried it, and I can log in/out with them, which is nice. I really would prefer the browser support rather than the login, if I had to choose, but I can do without that.

However, I have a bunch of files that are already encrypted. Though I am dual-booting XP, short of rebooting into XP each time I need to decrypt a file then deleting it again when I'm done then booting back into Vista x64, is there anything I can do to access those files in Vista x64? I tried 7zipping the 32-bit package, but 7zip said invalid archive.

Any ideas how I can get to my old files (I used a backup password)?

Where did you encrypt the files? Why can't you decrypt where you encypted and then transfer your files?

It doesn't matter where the encrypted files are, it's the fact that in order to decrypt them, the OP has to log back into Windows XP where the UPEK fingerprint reader is fully functional. While in Vista, it only works to Log On/Off.

I originally encrypted it in a 32-bit Vista installation. As I said in my OP, I am dual-booting Vista x64 and XP x86, so I can decrypt it in XP, but this is a PITA.

Since the drivers are available for free, can't someone just rip the software out of the 32-bit install package and use that to interface with the existing 64-bit drivers? I don't mind using 32-bit software for the encryption/decryption, if necessary.
As far as other OEMs - Sony won't install on the M1330, and ASUS uses a different fingerprint-reader, even though their logo is on UPEK's web site.

Any other option to stay in the 64-bit environment?
