Just going to throw this out there to find out if I'm the only one with this or if it's a vista thing and other people have the same issues.

Like I said in the Title, using a M1330 with the Matsh ita DVD drive and I'm coming across an issue.

If I use Nero to burn some data on to a DVD-R disc, don't close it, but after burning try to read it in the Matsh ita drive, Vista keeps asking me if I want to format the disc even though all I'm trying to do is read it. This also seems to apply to any disc I've made in my old XP system or ever burned in Vista. Tried other burning software as well to see if it was just Nero, same deal. It just won't read the disc within windows explorer asking me to format it everytime.

Here's the weird thing. If I put a DVD-R or retail DVD in and start any of the media playing software; no problem, movie's start. If I put in one of my game Dvd's, no problem game plays. It's only within Windows Explorer do I have this issue with any disc in all formats. By the way, it only gives me the live option to format the disc, the other mastered option is grayed out.

The other weird thing is if I put in a closed DVD into the drive, let the vista burn popup try to format it and it fails, it will then start reading the disc and after that if I put another disc in the DVD drive, it won't have a problem from that point onwards. It's only when I reboot again do I have the same problem again with reading any disc within windows explorer.

It gets more bizarre, because there are ways around the issue. If I logout and log back in, it'll read the disc. If I uninstall the DVD drive and then scan for new hardware, it'll read the disc. It's only after the initial bootup is where I can't read any disc ( CD-R/VCD/DATA/DVD, etc). Coming out of hibernation or standby still allows me to read any disc.

Something about cold booting in Vista is causing the drive or maybe it's a bug in Vista to not recognize discs with data on it. I installed Vista SP1 RC just to see if it made any difference, but unfortunately it didn't.

Is anyone experiencing this issue or have any thoughts on what might be doing this. Does it sound more like a vista bug issue rather than a Mat ****a drive problem. Pretty much tried a lot of other DVD and CDR brands and I'm doing my nut in solving the problem. Fortunately, there is a way to get around it, it's just annoying when all you want to do is throw a disc into the drive to read it and just remembered that you just did a cold boot and now explorer can't read the disc.

    Thanks
    LTM
