I'm sending back M1330 due to M1330. I have Rev. A01. Dell wanted
to replace MB but i really think noise is coming from CPU.

I'm hoping they'll send me one of the M1330 that works.

any advice or suggestions are welcome.

    thx,

People who have had the motherboard replaced with the one from rev a04 said that the system is silent. Maybe you should let them replace it. If they replace it and it still bothers you then you can send it back, can't you?

Yeah... motherboard replacement probably would fix it. The new A04 rev is supposed to fix cpu whine. Mine got quieter after a replacement, others' disappeared.

is the cpu whine very evident?
I might get a m1330 and wonder how/where I should look out for that noise

I went to a dell kiosk today and the unit they had out had the CPU whine but very quiet. It was only audible when I put the unit close to my ear.

Many people had the motherboard replaced and things stayed the same or even got worse. It doesn't seem to be a definitive fix to the CPU whine issues...

Yeah, but wait until you're alone, or taking notes in a lecture hall.

    It will be very audible.

I just got the A04 revision board in. Definitely the sound is still there if you have your ear next to the laptop. Otherwise it is quieter.

I finally called and canceled my service appointment for the A04 motherboard exchange. I'm probably driving Dell crazy, as I did the same thing with the "P" in XPS falling off my lid. There were too many problems that could go wrong if I were to have the entire lid replaced, so I dealt with it myself.

I'm just hoping some new bios update will address this problem. Just having the option to disable C4 would be all I ask for. When I'm plugged into the wall, I don't need it anyways! I know there's RMClock, but it always freezes up my machine. Nothing ever comes easy anymore, machines in the past, never had problems like this, at least for me...

SirWells, maybe you could order a replacement, that's what I did..since the a04 motherboard didn't do anything for me...and the motherboard was refurbished..>_< and the new express slot has this piece of metal that's b ent and blocking the hole..so that's lame

I was like, OH NO. I paid over 2 grand for this laptop, this cannot be happening
*calls dell to order replacement m1330* :D

You know, I haven't read anything that really discusses this CPU whine, and it really does surprise me come to think of it. I think I stated this before, but the whine isn't solely a Dell issue, my coworker has a brand new Lenovo and the whine is there as well.

CPU whine is caused by intel's core 2 duo processor.
It's very prevalent among brands other than dell also.

search the forums, it's the c4 state of the processor that makes the whine

thx, will check forums. can u elaborate on what c4 state of Intel's processor? w/o sounding too challenged, is it as simple as asking for
a different 'c4' processor (or something?)
