My Dell XPS m1330 I got back in August is freezing with a weird video problem. The computer freezes, the screen overlays with purple or green, goes black. I have to hold the power button to turn it off. The problem continues when I turn it on again. It turns on and the screen shows a light brown color and will not continue to start up. The only way I have found to fix this is to turn it off and on and after a few, it works.
This problem happens quite often, usually when I open a program. Other times, it happens when the system is idle. I have tried updating the video card drivers.

Sounds like either your video card is overheating or it's gone bad.
-
How can I find out if the video card is bad? The problem is getting worse, it took several restarts to get it to start up.
-
I plugged in an external monitor and closed the laptop lid. Instead of showing white, it loaded windows with lines going through the screen. After it almost went into windows is gave me an error message:
NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error
Any ideas? RAM problem? -
I tested the RAM and it isn't the problem. I can run in safe mode, so it looks like it is going to be a video problem. How can I tell?

Did you have any luck solving this problem? I have had a 1330 for six months and now the same thing in happening to me. Same thing exactly. Did reloading the video drivers help? My notebook was in a hot room when the problem occurred. I had also just recently installed NERO 8.
Thank you for any help! -
