I connected my m1330 to my 32" LCD via hdmi for the first time today. I tried playing an x264 (720p) video using VLC and also tried playing a dvd movie as well. All sound and video outputs to the TV with no problems. The only issue I came across has to do with video tearing in movies. After some quick diagnostics, it seems that the video tearing only occurs when I am in clone desktop mode (where the image is displayed on both the laptop and tv).
When I switch to the single output mode and make the tv the primary display, there is no more video tearing.

I was just curious if this is just a common bug with nvidia drivers. I have the latest drivers by the way; version 169.09.

What on Earth do you mean by 'video tearing'? If you're implying that some of the picture is off-screen (especially in a cloning setup), it's because the aspect ratio's of monitors and televisions are slightly different.

No, I don't mean aspect ratio. The best example I can give is similar to 3D gaming on the pc like Halo with vsync off. During fast motion, the top or bottom portion of the image seems to move faster than the other.. (not in sync) creating a tearing effect. Anyway, this is only evident when I connect my laptop to my tv in clone desktop mode. I've seen a few posts regarding this issue and I wanted to give my experience regarding it.

so, by reading your post, you aren't getting video tearing in DVD's while watching it on your laptop; only when it's connected to an outside source.....See, I'm getting the video tearing all the time whether watching a DVD or a video sequence in a game. It happens on every DVD software I'm using for watching or game with video ( happens in actions scenes on both ), but strangely enough not while running windows media center, but it does in dell's media center, windows media player, nero showtime, etc. The weird part is it doesn't do it if I bypass the operating system and play a DVD without booting into Vista through Dell's Media partition. Bottom line is I don't have a solution and I don't know if it's connected to your situation in any way; Just thought I'd throw my two cents worth in since video tearing seems to be an issue on both our systems.

P.S Also doing the same thing on my 1420 with same specs as the M1330 ( both with the Nvidia 8400GS card )

I have the same issue with my M1330 running through the HDMI running at 1920x1080.
