Has anyone else experienced their XPS letters falling off after having the back panel replaced? I had this happen before so Dell sent a 'tech' out to replace my back panel. With the normal taking out and putting back into my Timbuk2 bag that came with the system a different letter has now fallen off. Would it be worth it for dell to send the same 'tech' who forgot to plug in my keyboard the first time he took this apart to try again?
Has anyone just taken the letters off and filled it in with a silver paint pen?

Can't you just ask for the letters?

I wouldn't like the 3rd part field techs opening up my lappy just for that.

Ask for the letters. It's silly to open up the LCD panel just for that reason -

My first M1330's LCD was replaced by a tech, and the jackass left huge bulge on the LCD bezel, trying to tell me it was a design flaw lol. I told him it wasn't like it before he touch it, ended up getting the system replaced since the screen didn't even come on after he was done w/ it.

I just hate trusting my laptop to people who don't care for their jobs (I'm sure there are great techs out there though.)

I Tried the first time, they said they just replace the whole back pannel. X_x
Yeah, I had to take my laptop apart to plug in my keyboard after the tech was done. He tried to pull the same "design flaw" thing on mine when I asked him why the bottom part of my screen bezel was not flat anymore. I ended up fixing that myself too. I'm going to contact xps support to see if they can send just the letters.

this has been mentioned before in the previous post. quite simply, its no - they can not replace the letters only. dell receives the lid which are sourced elswhere before assembly at their factory and because of that the whole lid needs to be replaced. my recommendation is you be familair with the disassembly procedures (do a search for the service manual in this forum) and when the tech comes over, do not let the laptop out of your sight and insist that you help them - stop the tech when it looks as if they are applying too much pressure or forgot to connect a particular wire before reassembly. i've had the techs replaced my lid and i'm very careful not to apply pressure on the bezel stickers (even when using the nylon sleeve) and so far, its okay.

its rather unfortunate that us as end users have to learn what the techicians are supposed to know but thats the only way to guarantee that your laptop comes out properly at the other end. quite frankly i'd much rather replace the lid myself if it werent for the warranty covered that requires the tech to do it.

The dell tech I just got done speaking with asked me if I would like to do it, or have a tech come out. I can do it myself, but I opted for the tech to come out, so if something happens its on him, and not me. I've also been on hold now for over an hour. The tech suggests that it may be my lcd pannel getting too hot for the stickers. Ive already been hung up on once while a sr. someone was "reviewing my case for a possible led upgrade" X_x

Sigh. What kind of glue does dell use for the letters? >_<
I've heard many cases of the letters just falling off and people having to use superglue to glue them back on...

So far, 2+ hours on the phoen with dell. Even had someone from india tell me it is not possible to change a screen in a laptop, period. This has been a fun day. I would have been content with them telling me "No sir, we cannot upgrade your screen cause it will not fix the issue" But no, they have to try and convice me that it is impossible to ever change a screen in a laptop, cause it is and i quote "built into the laptop" Now that they are trying to tell me it is not possible I am trying to get to the right people to have them help me out. I dont mind them telling me no for an upgrade, but I really dont like when they try to lie to me about things...

one easy word: complain. Ask that jerk's # then type a good complain letter to Dell.

Just curious why you were connected to india. I thought XPS supports were domestic like Gold support is.

I have no idea, but after getting transfered to the extended warranty dept(she wanted me to purchase it), then sales, i hung up and called XPS support again. This time I was transfered to XPS customer care. Excellet service, the lady I was speaking with is willing to upgrade my LCd screen to a LED version. She is currently looking for a part number that she can use and will be calling me back or sending me an e-mail with the information. If anyone has a part number that I can give it, it may speed it up. I tried using the 320-5583 and 320-5591 numbers, but they are giving her an error that it is only used from the factory. Big thumbs up to XPS support. I have seen both sides of support today, normal and XPS, and I sure am glad I have the XPS side.

    Update

The dell rep called me back. They are sending me a LED screen, internal part number CX-059. I have to hand it to dell, once you get into the XPS support they are amazing. Will update once the tech changes the back pannel and I change the screen.

I guess it helps to stay calm and not yell, no matter how much I got transfered to India or the other departments. Treat the rep with respect and they treat you with the same back. ^_^
