I had to reformat my laptop recently after my hard drive had data corruptions. I restored everything but noticed my media buttons are no longer working. This means can't mute/raise or reduce volume using those heat sensitive keys. Surprisingly my eject button works. Can someone please tell me how I can restore the functionality of the other buttons? thanks

install media direct again.... from what i read so far you need to have a partition outside of the main OS to do that.....

As far as I'm aware mediadirect has nothing to do with whether the buttons work or not. I've totally removed mediadirect and I can use the mute, increase volume and decrease volume buttons fine. They adjust the main Windows sound....

They even work before you install the quickset. It just won't show up on your screen showing the volume changing but the volume does change. Sounds like a hardware issue to me. Is there any possibility that the hard drive corruption could have been caused by a voltage spike of some sort?

hmm.. ok.. after further investigation it seems like what you've said above is the case. The volume IS changing just that it doesn't show up on the screen. And you say this is because Media direct isn't installed?

The problem is with quickset. Reinstall it or make sure it's not disabled. Without quickset the volume will change and etc, but it won't show the meter
