    Questions for Dual monitor users....

First off, I didnt even believe this system had a fan until I hooked it up to my Benq T903 19" LCD.

It seems though that when it is hooked up and working dual monitors, the fan is always on and noticeable...

Lets take this one step up...

When I have Ultimat Dreamscenes on in the background, the fan is always pushing out full speed.

Is this expected? Is it because the adapter has a heavier workload similar to a CPU or HD and gets alot hotter.

    Tx in advance..

flamenko: the resolution on the 13.3" M1330 screen is 1200x800 or about 960 000 pixels. That's a relatively small amount of pixels that a GPU unit has to render, even with vista and ultimate dreamscenes. Now your BenQ monitor is natively 1280x1024 pixels or about 1.31 million pixels; assuming that you're running it at this resolution. If both screens are being displayed at the same time, you have about 2.27 million pixels to render; instead of 960000; an increase of 133% in pixels. All those pixels need to be rendered by the same GPU, so it is going to heat up. The only solutions are to just use one monitor or to cut down on graphics intensive applications. Also, if you're mimicking the desktop on two screens; that's kinda useless. If you're having one extended desktop; that doesn't really work very well. Because since they're not the same resolution; the adjustment of screen real estate will be thrown out of whack. Also, to save power consumption use the VGA connector, as a DVI cable through the HDMI port needs digital processing onboard, but the VGA does not.

    Hope it helps.

Good answer Duke, do you know if I can turn off the lappy screen and run extended desktop on matcvhing monitors one out of the VGA, and one out of the HDMI using a HDMI to DVI-D converter?

Answered my ow question. Yes, you can put a panel in the VGA and on the HDMI with a HDMI to DVI-D convertor and choose from any 2 of the 3 screens to go at the same time. Works a treat. Flamenco is right, the fan is on all the time, but very minor noise compared to my old desktop.

dreamscene is running a video so your video card will get hot so the fan kicks in.
