Anybody have any experience with the M1330 AND the Vostro 1400? I am stuck between the two and could use some help.
I can get a configured M1330 for about $1200 CDN. It look beautiful, it's light weight, battery life is amazing and I can forgive the CD drive noises.
The Vostro 1400 I can get for about $900 CDN. It won't come with Vista Home Premium like the M1330 but everything else is pretty much the same except the bigger, non LED screen.
I had my heart set on the M1330 and was willing to pay the modest $1200 CDN for a brand new system, but now i'm having secoond thoughts after see the price for the Vostro 1400.
Any thoughts?

If it was a little bigger I might suggest the vostro but its in a different league..
I'm patiently waiting for an M1330 and can't fault my decision to stick with it..
..until the the sony SZ6 becomes avaliable in the UK very soon that is lol -
Well just do a search on the forums with people having problems or lack of. The Vostro 1400 is a good product in my opinion. Chunky but also giving the impression that it is quite sturdy
I have heard of more issues with the M1330 (1400 might have a lose battery while the M1330 may have "bent" parts) series but it's up to you to search a bit and see if there are any problems that may affect you. -
Yeah i too think that Vostro 1400 is a better by. It is bigger so you may be able to overlcok it more as theres more room for heat to dissapte. Also you can buy more accessories such as Bluetooth, webcam etc and still be under the $1200 that the M1330 requires. Also if you call up and order they will put Vista Home Premium on the 1400.

I've got the m1330 and can honestly say that nothing else in Dell's lineup right now even makes me 2nd guess my purchase.
I was originally going to go with a D630 however waited for the m1330 and don't regret it at all. -
Vostro just seems like a cheap, big alternative.. couldn't bring myself to do it.

Thanks. If I get a promotion cleared with a Sales rep I might even be able to get the M1330 for just under $1000 CDN. The processor would be 1.5 ghz, but it will be more than enough for my needs and I could always upgrade in the future (like when I have the money to spare
). The Vostro could be upgraded more, but its so dull looking.... my heart is set on the M1330 and I think getting it for $1000 would seal the deal.

For what it's worth, I'm really loving my Vostro 1400, but I haven't ever used an M1330.

At that price, I'd definitely get the XPS. I made a similar decision last year around this time. XPS M1210 vs. Inspiron 640m. For the $200 difference, I had to get the M1210. How are you getting such a good deal anyway?
-
I'm getting it through a school discount. There also seems to be a promotion to get some money off if I commit to 6-months of high speed internet. Nobody seems to know what I'm talking about so I had to email the internet config to someone at dell and see if he can confirm the e-coupon I would receive for signing up for internet service. W/o the coupon it would be like $1,158 CDN. I'm hoping the e-coupon is worth at least $200 though.

Hmm...interesting. Which school? At that price I'd consider selling my M1210 to get an M1330. Dell usually doesn't have great deals in Canada.

I go to University of Toronto. If your school is a dell partner they might also offer you a discount and the option for many more configurations than Dell.ca. Call your campus computerstore perhaps and see if they can hook you up with something.

i kinda have the same problem ... i'm thinking about buying a small light laptop (mainly for work, it has to be transportable) and i got stuck in the end with the m1330 and the vostro 1400. i can't make up my mind yet however ...
i really like the fact that the m1330 is so small and light, and i'm also willing to pay the extra cash for that ... but i'm wondering if the screen might be TOO small ... i'll use the laptop mainly for Word, Excel and PowerPoint ... and if i want to show a powerpoint presentation to one or more collegues they should be able to view it on the screen without having to put on glasses ;P
is this overexaggerated? i never owned a 13inch screen, so i'm not really sure how those applications might look on itand that's why i'm still thinking about the vostro because of its 14 inch (but that comes with more weight again, so i'm torn...) could anyone share their impressions?
(by the way, i did check out a few shops with laptops, but i couldn't find any 13inch model, so i couldn't check on it myself ... yet)
i'd also like to know the actual weights of those laptops with the 9-cel batteries. the dell sites tell the base weights, but i don't know the weight of the 9cel battery.
EDIT: oh yea i forgot one more thing ... i've read that the black cover of the m1330 keeps good track of fingerprints ... does anyone know if the red version has the same problem?
tnx in advance
M1330 or Vostro 1400?
