Do you think following these instructions from the tablet pc section of the website will work?

    http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?p=31347

I just got my motherboard replaced with tha a04 rev which was supposedly supposed to minimize/stop cpu whine but it didn't do anything...

I've never tweaked/overclocked anything before so I'm afriad I might screw up my computer by messing around with rmclock...

    Suggestions?

If you are using Vista do NOT use rmclock! Your system will freeze and it is a known problem that, to my knowledge, has yet to be fixed.

If you are using XP, then go for it - it does work at the expense of some battery life.....

RMClock definitely gets rid of the CPU whine, but when used with Vista, freezes up my machine all the time. Some people have had success with RMClock on Vista but almost everyone I've spoke to on here has not. If only it worked, I could deal with lower battery life, especially when I have my laptop plugged in!

Ok, I guess I'll just have to deal with the cpu whine then...

try this tell me if you notice the whine changing

click the battery icon in the taskbar, click more power options, click change plan settings for the plan that is allready chosen, click changed advanced power settings, expand processor power management, change the minimum power state to 100% for on battery and plug in, click apply

Theoretically, xpsdabest's tip should work. I can't test it as my current 1330 has no whine :( <--j/k

where does your whine come from? By the express slot at the front? Or from the CPU area at the back?

If its from the front, then its not CPU whine! It's coming from the 82801HBM Southbridge chip on the actual motherboard!

My old HP NX6110 and my mates Sony VAIO both do this (they both have the 82801FBM southbridge chip), but they are almost silent!

You have to put your ear right next to the palm rest to hear them! And even then they are very faint!

The only way to get rid of the whine from the 82801HBM is by replacing the mobo or the whole system!

And RMClock doesn't freeze for me under Vista!

Just disable C4 state, and untick enable popup/popdown under the "advanced CPU settings" section of RMClock.
