Hey,
My m1330 came in last week, but after pondering for quite a while, I have decided to go for replacement. The base is uneven, and therefore, wobbly. The black strip (by XPS Logo/Left speaker) is loose, and sometimes I see the screen flickering (as if the refresh rate is very low).
I was wondering how do I ask for replacement? Do I just call up Dell, and say I have problems with the laptop and it's defective? Are there any special forms to fill out?
Also, how long should the replacement take to arrive? Is it just like ordering a new laptop (meaning waiting for more than a month?).
Please advice and let me know.
Thanks
EDIT: I hoping the replacement doesn't have any problems like the uneven base, CPU whine, other defects.
Is there anyway I can talk to CSR and tell them to make sure it doesn't have any problems?
Thanks

Call Dell CSRs during the day and identify your concerns and express that you would like a replacement since this is a brand new system. Several others have been surprised at how easy it actually is.
Most replacement systems arrive in about 2-3 weeks.
You may try to get concessions as this is a good time to do so...200 back maybe... -
I tried to get concession when i called Dell Customer Care and they said once i receive my replacement, to give them a call back and then they'll discuss it.
I think they just said that as by then it'll be over 2 weeks and then i can't return the laptop. -
You Guys are lucky. I rang up today and was on the phone for over 1 hour and they wouldnt give me a replacement. They said they would replace my keyboard and my speakers because they were faulty but will not replace it. After I yelled and showed them my displeasure they asked to me get a Digital Camera and take photos of it before they will consider replacing it. What can I do? How can I get a replacement? I am really upset with the quality of the computer I got!!

the process of getting a replacement was relatively easy for me. I just called up XPS technical support with the express service code so I didn't have to wait to talk to someone. I then told the technician that mine was wobbly, had paint issues and the screen was grainy and asked if I could get a replacement. He was very friendly and got me a case number to call up customer service so they could get me the replacement. Was probably on the phone with him for about 10-15 because he had to make the notes on the case. Ran into a little trouble once I finally got to talk to someone is customer service. They were telling me that in order to get the replacement I would have to talk to tech support so they can try to fix the issue before they can process a replacement. I told them that tech support just transferred me to them and I had a case number. Then they wanted to tell me that the guy I talked to wasn't in tech support! I said yes he was because I chose the option to talk to technical support. After 10 more minutes of the girl finally believing me she processed the replacement and said I should get it in 3-5 days. This was on 9/8. The next day I called to get the order number since she didn't have one for me the day before. By Monday my system was in kitting, by Tuesday in boxing and today it has shipped, just like it said on the site, well one day before the actual ship date of 9/14. Overall really easy process!

Call dell up and explain you situation most replacment take 3-4weeks -
I was told that my replacement would come in 5-15 days. However, after 10 days, I called and was informed that it was pending for some strange reasons.
Fortunately, it was puched through by XPS technical support.
Moral: Make sure you get the status days after being promised a replacement.
Otherwise, it was a very simple and easy process. Hopefully, since I have the 120gb version (Dell is no longer selling the 120gb hard drive, but instead is selling 160gb as the lowest,) they will send over the replacement with a 160gb hard drive. What are the chances? -
not likely, this morning when i checked the service tag of my replacement, it shows it coming with t7300, intel wireless N and 120GB all of which Dell is not selling anymore. So when you ask for a replacement, it has to be EXACTLY the same as your original order

I called Dell customer service told them that there were some issues with my mouse, the left side above the keyboard was popped out and the left hinge cover pops off and a few other issues, right away they put in for a replacement, I was on the phone for about 15 mins, got a order number the next day and was called today that my replacement had shipped about 4 weeks after I called them, so I would push for a replacement you paid alot of money for it.

Im waiting on my 2nd replacement! Don't hesistate to ask for one. When you pay $2000 for a laptop, it should be near perfect!!
-
Ook thanks! I asked for replacement today, with EDD of 9/21 (next day air). I am just hoping the replacement has no problems, and is near perfect.
I hate the fact that I already transfered about 100GB of stuff to this one and installed programs, and now gotta transfer it again and do it all over again! Very annoying! -
yeah I bet, that's why I asked for a replacement within the first 24 hours of receiving mine. Since I knew a replacement was coming I put off installing anything on this one because then I would have to go through all of the trouble of moving everything to the new one. Plus this way I would have more time to look over the replacement to see if I need to request another one before the 21 days are up!

Hello, I've just recieved my laptop (originally arrived at Purolator on Sept 11). So far I tink the built quality improved (like most other users who've had their replacements). I noticed the dents gone, the monitor assembling was improved (no teeth marks showing) and viewing angles improved. I've done a bit of testing for CPU whine and so far I didn't notice any but couldn't help notice that the fans got slightly louder (but I'm alright with it cause it cools the comp keeping it at a decent temp so you can put it on your lap unlike the original built that I've had). However it seems that M1330 seems to be running hotter than my old built... my suspecion is that they've disabled C4 state hardware end to solve this issue (but i have to check BIOS myself to confirm that). I've also done testing on "keyboard flex" and I must say comparing to my original keyboard flex has significantly reduced. Of course there's still a slight bit if you compare it with Toshiba laptops but it's very minimal and I'd say pretty much negligble. The wobbling issue I've had on my old m1330 also improved, it now no longer wobbles. The paint job is done better this time with no silver paint going onto the edges of the lid where the black paint is. Some issues with the design of the laptop were not fixed such as the 1 mm that sticks out from hard drive bay and the SD card issue where a real SD card sticks out about a bit as well as the remote sticking out when pushed into the express slot. I think these are the built issues that are related to the design itself and wouldn't be fixed in future builts. Overall I'm pretty satisified with this built and I'd say I'm keeping this new built. Finally, I have a laptop that I can show my friends without being embarassed that it was built by Dell.

Thanks for the reply! That makes me happy that build quality is improving!
Hopefully, I will be satisfied too. -

Thanks! -
So i just got my replacement. They fixed the wobble but then I have a poorer paint job than the last one. The paint where the XPS logo is, is a shade darker than the main part of the lid. Also the black part above the power button is scuffed a little. Dell's gonna send out a tech next week to replace the so we'll see if it works.

Thanks! -
It does have the cpu whine but can only be heard if my ear is near the dvd drive or the fan, so I guess I can live with it. Also the left hinge isn't loose but a tiny bit misaligned but again, not a deal breaker.
To be honest, I think mine is probably one that someone returned, just because I didn't have any of these problems on my original one, just the wobble.
