    Hello all,

I can't figure out a way of setting my laptop so that an application outputs audio to HDMI only when the HDMI cable is plugged in, and when the HDMI cable is unplugged returns to outputting to the normal speakers.

I have searched through the thread and could not find this issue mentioned anywhere...

I can only get HDMI audio by switching the default device to HDMI prior to starting an application such as Windows Media Center. Then, to get audio from the normal speakers, I have to change the default device again. Needless to say this is tedious and limits the notebooks usability as a part time media center.

    Any suggestions/advice?s

There's no other way. Don't like it, find another notebook which would support audio over HDMI, let alone autoswitch audio out.

Yeah, it is not like there is a precedent. Say, an "autoswitch" between speakers and earphones...(Not to mention that it is clever enough to autoswitch the HDMI video...)

Anyway, there is something wrong here. The purpose of setting a default device is so applications know which device to use when more than one device is available but still gain access to alternate device when the primary is not there. Otherwise what is the point of setting a default?

Now the "bug" can be in one of the following areas:
    1. With the user. i.e. me: I am doing something wrong so that even when HDMI is unplugged it does not register as unavailable.
    2. Vista is doing something wrong.
    3. The M1330 is doing something wrong.

I don't know which one it is, but I think it is a pretty fair comment that one of them could and should be corrected.

So does anyone have any ideas?
