When I close the lid on my two laptops, they go into standby. That is the default for laptops and also my preference. However, when I open the lid and the computer comes out of standby, the screens flash two or three times and the resolution is lowered to 1024x768. This happens on both my M1330 and the I 1420 I just returned.

If I put it to sleep by pressing the power button and then wake it up with the power button, I do not have this problem. If I change the "lid" setting to hybernate instead of standby, it also does not happen.

The only time I have this problem is when closing my lid puts the computer into standby. It is a real pain in the rear to have to reset the resolution every time I open the lid to use the computer.

I have formatted and reinstalled Vista using the latest drivers on Dell's website. I have tried the newer video driver from Intel. I always install the chipset software first then the other Dell drivers.

I installed XP with all the latest drivers on the I1420 and it worked fine so it is somehow related to Vista. I suspect that the chipset software has a bug and the ACPI Lid driver driver is the problem but I am not an expert.

Has anyone else experience this issue and did you find a fix?

    Thanks

Forget the driver. As I have indicated, serveral different drivers have not solved the problem.

What information do you have about it being a Vista bug? Please provide a link.

    Thx
