Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone of you have actually installed Steam and played either HL2 or CSS or even cs 1.6.

I tried to do that with my m1330 and apparently my steam app freezes as soon as it loads and I can't do anything else. I've tried to install the latest vista "leaked" updates and it didn't do any good. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm having the same problem. Steam signs into account and freezes with a CPU usage of about 50%. Anyone had any luck?

I worked out it has something to do with the 'Store' view. By quickly changing to 'My Games' it works perfectly. I changed my 'Favorite window' setting to games and that helps.

It's working fine for me.. I haven't done anything special though. I just installed it from the cd, and i'm paying HL2 just fine (all settings at high too). I still have the stock Nvidia drivers, i don't know if that's related.

yes that is also the solution for me.. I had to try so many times to get past the Store screen.

A good way to bypass is quickly switch to "My Games" screen and then go to File -> Options -> Interface -> Favourite Window, and set it to "Games". This will prevent the Store window from poping up after login.

Thats not the best solution swtich to game right after you log on.

i figure that if you go to "TASK MANAGER" --> "PRoceses" --> finger print suit ... you close that . Then steam should run perfectly fine.

    thats for me anyway

but yea another solution would be go into game asap after you logon. but in my case i want to buy some game i need those home page pop up, and usually freezes if i don't close that program .

    :(

once you pass the initial launch of the store you can go back to that screen without an issue. It's not as convinent, but at least it saves you from having to close the FP reader software everytime you launch steam.

Oh, it's related to the fingerprint reader... that would explain why i wasn't having any problems (i don't have the FP reader).

Glad I found the cause of the problem, been trying to download the demo of bioshock all day and just installed steam on my vista home premium 32bit OS and it keeps freezing but I noticed it didnt freeze right away.

I googled all over for the answer, and sure enough its right here on the forums I frequent. Wonder if Steam knows about this and has a fix on the way.

BTW its my Asus that has the issue, it doesnt have finger print suite, but has a finger print reader so it must be the same thing, I just need to find what my application process is called because its not the same.
