    Has anyone else seen this?

Have a 2 week old M1330 and the buttons at the bottom of the touchpad have stopped working (worked 3 or 4 times). Done the full diagnostic thing, buttons don't work in safe mode or with updated BIOS, driver thinks there are ok, Dell QuickSet->System->...->Pointer Device says status is "OK" but buttons is "0"!

Running the diagnostics at the F12 level gets no results from the left or right button. Diag test times out waiting for action.

Only additional installs over the factory standard are Firefox & Java SDK.

USB mouse works fine when pugged in.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

Not too surprised there's yet another defective M1330. Well, here's my advice: Ask for a replacement like everyone else or deal with a big defect on an expensive laptop; you're call ;)

This doesn't sound right to me. So many people are complaining about the M1330. It's not that bad. I have never heard of defective mouse buttons either. I'd have to see it to believe it.

Final analysis: required complete disassembly (by a Dell technician of course), but the cause of the problem was the cable connecting the touchpad to the motherboard had come loose.

Looking at the picture in Dell's Service Manual, I'd say those (2) cables can't be accidentally "shaken" loose, so I imagine they didn't plug them in firmly enough @the factory... (thus it shouldn't happen again).

[edit] Make that the one cable (the other cable connects the fingerprint sensor to the touchpad's PCB...)

Agreed - it is all pretty tight in there, so that cable could not have been properly seated. It seems to have a (reasonably) positive feel when it is properly seated, so difficult to imagine it just shook loose.

Dell tech said this is the only time he's seen that particular malady. Guess I'm just lucky.
