I have the WLED screen with 640x480 camera. I am using the Dell Webcam Center to view and record video.

The live video is displayed fine at 640x480 until I start recording. At that point it freezes constantly, both in the monitor (live) screen and in the recorded file.

At 320x240 there is no problem with recording.

I realize that it could be something I have done, but I am looking at the startup programs and also at the services list and I see nothing obvious.

Is it just me, or do others have the same problem?

It seems to be that a hardwired camera should not have any fundamental problem recording video at 640x480.

    Many thanks,

I am not sure I know what that means. I am on AC power but that may not be the answer to your question.

click on the battery meter in the tray and select "high performance" power mode. There should be 3 - power save, Dell recommended (or balanced) and high performance, I think it's self-obvious what they are for :)

Pointless post. How is it helping the op to fix his camera to know that urs works just fine?

OK, got it. The High Performance mode sets low-power and power-down options to go into effect later or never (compared to, say, the Dell Recommended settings). It is 'High Performance' in the sense that in more situations you don't have startup lag.

But I am using the laptop. It has started up. The power option chosen should not be relevant. In any case I tried it. Makes no difference. Well, possibly I got a second more of normal recording before the first freezing happened. I haven't measured that precisely.

The behavior of a 2MP camera is relevant information, if recording was at 640x480. I'd still be grateful if someone could tell me if their WLED-screen camera is recording fine at 640x480 or not. What I want to know is whether this is a feature (design defect) or something in my machine. Many thanks,
