My question is not whether or not to get it?

I kinda feel like after the first year if something hasn't gone wrong, it probably wont. What's your take on this?

Other than the hard disk, what do you think could fail after the first year?

How long do you intend to keep it.. if you only aim for keeping it for 2 years at tops, just might as well stick with the 1 year warranty. Thats what i am doing, since i don't intend to keep it for too long.

If you Hard Disk, or RAM goes... you can just replace it yourself for little cost really.. a hard drive would set you back less than an extended warranty i'll bet. Main problems that you would be worried about are things like Hard drive controller which is on the MotherBoard... or LCD... things that will cost you a lot... but i doubt they will go after just 1 year of use. My ASUS will generally do 12 or 18... even 24 hour days of use, or doing something at least and nothing has gone wrong with the hardware even after 16 months of heavy use.

    You'll be fine

Its "useful" on everything you buy. The question should be is it worth it...and that is subjective again. As someone who knows how to fix a laptop when something fails, i would say its not worth it for me, but someone with less knowledge it will be very much worth it as they wouldn't know what to do when something does not work the way it is supposed to.

I would say the same now, after a few twidles with this notebook. I feel i could do the things like replacing Hard Drives, and RAM without much of an issue and since i only want a new one to last 2 years.. it just wasn't worth it.

But could you trouble shoot the problem to be that specific part. Is it a graphics card or motherboard? Without buying the wrong part...thats the hard part. A lot of people feel confident until the problem happens and then they end up taking it in to geek squad and getting charged 300+ parts.

On the 1330 i'm waiting to be shipped, i took out the 2 year. It was about R350 ($50) extra for the extra year. If you want to upgrade to 2 years before your 1 year included expires it is lank expensive!!

Touch wood i dont need more than the 2yrs.
