Anyone know whether the CPU is socketed?

I hear that Merom CPUs are going to be 100% compatible with Yonah motherboards. What are the chances of us being able to open up the notebook (sometime after the warranty expires) and drop in a Merom chip?

As far as I know...it will be compatable. The Manufacturer is going to be responsible for releasing the BIOS update. So yes, it should be possible...and I think it is great that Intel is doing this...this is one of the things that used to urk me about the computers...if you wanted a better processor you had to upgrade your motherboard.

Way to go Intel! :p I can't wait to see AMD and Intel compete again...when they do, the consumer is the winner. :p

i dont know about the merom support but if u want to get to the cpu socket heres how: push the lcd down, remove the plastic hinge cover (its a snap on) then unscrew the keyboard. you will see the fan and the heat sink. the cpu is under that heatsink. have fun! i take mine apart for kicks =)
