    Hi,

Could anyone let me know what they think of their M1530 screen (1280x800 res).

I have heard rumours all over the place that the screen suffers from poor viewing angles / bad colour and poor contrast ratio's.

Is anyone happy with their 1280 screen?, are there different models of the screen aswell?

    Cheers

I received 2 1530s equipped with the 1280 screen. One had horrific backlight bleed, low contrast and a dead pixel. The other was grainy, with low contrast and backlight bleed.

I've now got the Votro 1500 in my sig. It has the matte 1280 screen which, while not the best I've seen, is far better than the previous offerings. And I saved myself £330 odd into the bargain by trading down to the Vostro.

Eek, that's not a good sign. Is this a trend for the 1280 screens - or was that a case of misfortune?

Is anyone happy with their 1280 screen?, be interesting to know if there are more disatisfied than satisfied.

Hi, the first screen I got in my m1530 was a Samsung wxga. While the viewing angles were alright it was a damn grainy display with little brightness and poor colours.
I spent nearly 3 weeks with Dells tech support to change my display. Wanted them to send me a LG display but they told me standard stuff like it is not possible for them to decide which manufacturer will be sent to me bla, bla.
In the end I got a chunghwa picture tubes (CPT) display and I am very happy with it. It is not grainy, is much brighter and has better colours. Viewing angles are alright too as far is I can judge.

But now I'm in the position to decide again which display type I want to have because of a replacement laptop Dell will send me due to various hardware flaws on my machine (dvd drive, mainboard...)
This time I will definately choose the wxga+ display. There have been lots of user complaints especially here in Germany regarding the crappy AUO and Samsung displays and it seems that Dell has decided to do something finally.

Since jan 18 every wxga+ display you order on a m1530 will definately be LG. But be aware that this only applies to Europe!!! This has been stated by a Dell employee in a German notebook forum and users who have ordered since then have confirmed that they only got LGs. So my advice would be to go for a wxga+ (in Europe ;) ) since the wxgas are much more likely to suffer from quality issues.

Btw: By looking at this poll you can see that the chance will be much higher to get a LG display with wxga+

    than with wxga:

    Thanks

I originally ordered a M1530 in January with a 1440 screen, but I cancelled it due to being undecided on an Alienware machine.

I've just reordered my new one yesterday and I managed 10% off, plus a further 3% - plus 5% quidco cashback.

The problem is Dell don't offer the 1440 screen to us UK people (like they did in January) unless you opt for the £1099 config.

Is it possible to ring up Dell and ask them to upgrade / change the order to include a 1440 resolution screen do you think? (even though it's not possible online).

Again it would be interesting to hear if anyone has actually has a good 1280x800 screen and are they hard to come by.

A lot of people must have them here in the UK, because as I mentioned - it is the only res they offer on the "cheaper" configs.

I'd be quite happy waiting until it arrives if I know there is a chance of it being decent.

You can definately do that. Actually I ordered my m1530 via phone and had more configuration options than on the online shop. When you place a new order the old one will be canceled but that shouldn't be that of a big deal for Dell. In your position I would just call Dell's sale department and ask for the same configuration you have right now but with the wxga+ panel and see how much it would cost then.

    Thanks for the info guys,

Got in contact with my sales rep and got the upgrade to 1440 for £20 :D.

Also got the T7250 upgraded to a T8300 for £40.

    Bargain? (good haggler!) :)

So whats the total price n spec?

I had to be rigid with my spec as it was from dell outlet - i.e, the system was already built for someone else. very happy that my previous order got cancelled now as it just had 1280 monitor, standard wireless G vs the N in the one coming, and possibly more important, only a 1 yr warranty rather than the 4 years next day onsite i now have. came in at just £30 more.
