Hi I've just bought an m1530 (and I'm really happy with it). 2 questions have arisen and I've had a browe through the forum and couldn't find any answers.

    1) I live in a legal jurisdiction that allows dvd devices to be region free (and allows gaming console mod-chipping :D). I tried to play a different region dvd on my new laptop (i have the DVD-RW drive not the blueray) and it wouldn't work. It asked me whether I wanted to change the region (which I can only do 5 times). Does anyone know what manufacturer/model the drive is and whether it can be made region free?

    2) Hooked up the lappy to our 37" LCD TV via HDMI cable. I was able to replicate the desktop on it and thus play videos, but the audio was still coming only from the laptop speakers not the tv speakers. Any suggestions on how I get this to work?

Sorry if I'm asking questions that have already been answered I know how annoying this can be, but if any of you have a quick answer it would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

For your region free duties, try Slysoft AnyDVD. They have a free trial version so you have nothing to lose. I know some that uses it in Vista although I'm not sure whether he uses it in 32 or 64 bit.

Regarding your second question, I have no idea ;) It is possible that the HDMI port on the M1530 doesn't carry audio.

Cool I'll give it a try! I was hoping I could get some firmware I could flash the drive with, but as a second option I guess a software solution will work.

Hmm that would kinda suck. I'll just go s-video or something.. makes me wish i hadn't thrown 50 bucks away on a hdmi cable tho :(.

Thanks heaps for the reply tho! :)

Audio should work. Right click on the audio icon in your taskbar, click Playback Devices, and set the HDMI audio to default. Restart your open video playback programs and you should be good to go.

Yes, the M1530 does carry sound through the HDMI cable.
On the start menu bar go to the bottom right corner and right click on the picture of the speaker (the one where you can adjust the volume). Then click on "playback devices". Then click on the icon that says "HDMI" and set it to default. Now the sound will come from your tv speakers and not the laptop speakers.
