Hello. Where can I find a guide to update to Vista SP1 with my M1530? I received it a week ago and it came with Vista, no SP1.

It doesn't show on Windows Update. I have read something about updating the "UPEK Fingerprint Reader" but I can't remember where I found it.

    Anyone updated succefully?

How do you know it doesn't have SP1? How much ram does Vista detect? I thought my XPS M1530 didn't come with SP1 but it never showed up in Windows update. I also see that Vista detects 3.5GB of RAM so my laptop does indeed have SP1.

Run - winver - It should say Service Pack 1 at the end of the second line (I am in my desktop with SP1 and it says that :) )

Will try to update UPEK drivers.

    Thanks

The 3.5G of RAM doesn't mean you've got SP1. I don't think it has anything to do with SP1 at all actually.

Right click on "My Computer" and go to Properties, on the top where it says Windows Edition, it should look like this:

Windows Vista(TM) Home Premium/Business/Ultimate (depending on your version of Vista)
    Copyright blahblahblah
    Service Pack 1

If it doesn't say SP1 there, you don't have it.

I got that one and it won't let me update to SP1 because I don't have the prerequisite language packs installed...?

What? I don't understand that... though I do faintly recall downloading a Chinese language pack and that may be why it won't do the update. This begs the question... Where do I find this pack and how do I uninstall it so I can throw SP1 on my M1530?

I've searched through the Windows Updates history and I can't find it. Possibly under some special codename? I have no idea... help would be appreciated.

Chinese is not among the first wave of SP1 update. You'll have to wait for the next wave to be released which should be very soon.

As to how to uninstall it... sorry I've never used a language pack so can't help you there.

Try Control Panel -> Regional Settings to uninstall the language pack. There should be some option there (I'm on an XP PC atm, so I can't check).

It's not offered on Windows Update until you have certain hotfixes already on your computer from WU... of course you can use the standalone, but what's the rush?

Just for clarification, without SP1, if you have 4G of Ram, your system will show 3.5G of RAM.

When you upgrade to SP1, your system will display the correct amount of Ram, 4G (assuming that's what you have), however, Vista will still only utilize 3.5G of Ram.

I believe you need Vista 64 to have access to the full 4G of Ram.

I am having the same problem. My fingerprint driver is up to date but I still don't have SP1 available for download.

For some reason it is not displaying my signature, but I have a M1530 with Vista Home Premium.

Im guessing you just updated the driver? If thats the case, reboot, wait 20 mins, re-check WU.
