Hi
Can anyone help me with a query
I'm thinking about buying a XPS M1530
Does anyone know if when watching a blu-ray DVD you can notice the difference in detail between 1680x1050 and 1280x720 on the 15.4" screen.
thanks in advance

Put the WXGA+ 1440x900 in there to, that would be a good comparison!
If the people who actuary own the blu-ray drive (DISK) can comment, this would be good to see what they think of it? Is it worth it? Ect -
Well worth $500 USD ... definitely not.
That's DELL's way of overpricing things.
Speaking of the quality of it, I doubt that there are people who would pay so much to get it. -
I agree with injek, it is not worth it

They said you cant see the difference of 1080p on anything smaller than 40". If you were to output it to your 40" or larger 1080p tv then maybe...but why not just buy a ps3 for that...

I would agree with the others here: do not buy the Blue Ray Drive! Rather buy a Playstation 3 for $400 and play Blue Ray DVDs from there.......then you have a game console with your Blue Ray Drive
No seriously, do not buy it, it is not worth the money. Rather wait one year till the Blue Ray Drives' prices are lowered to an acceptable price, buy one separately and upgrade your Dell then on your own.... it is not that difficult and you even won't lose warranty! -
To me now ive watched dvd's and blu-ray disks, dvd looks like a old vhs did when dvd first came outi wouldnt like to go back to dvd now!
Now i have hi def tv! -
I am happy with my purchase though.
Ohh, I forgot to mention that the blu-ray drive is region free as well. So it can play blu-ray discs from region A (Americas), region B(Europe) and Region C(Asia) Which is reallly cool.. -
Get it now before regions are put on to it! this is a cool selling point! do you think it will be the same in the UK aswell!

Watching a regular DVD is essentially a native 640x480 picture. Expanding it to full screen on ANY resolution M1530 (or any display bought after 1989) is automatic picture degradation. Still very watchable on a 15" screen, but much like DVD vs. VHS or HD cable TV vs. regular cable, you don't know what you are missing until you have seen it.
Even at 720p (1280x720 I believe) the difference in picture and sound is AWESOME. You can experience this without Blu-Ray: just download an .MKV encoded movie captured at 720p or 1080p that you also have a regular DVD of. Watch them both on your laptop (assuming you have a high resolution screen). There is no comparison.
Lastly, a VERY cool feature of having Blu-Ray on the M1530 is the HDMI port
that comes standard on the M1530. Your M1530 is now a portable Blu-Ray player: plug it into any HDMI input (your buddy's HD TV, or wherever) and you're off to the races. A LOT of folks are getting HD TV's now, thanks to HD cable, HD satellite, etc.
I also have a PS3. I watch Blu-Rays on that one projector all the time. Now I can watch Blu-Ray on all of the HD TV's in my house if I choose to, or anywhere else, without gutting my PS3 out of my entertainment center.
It's expensive. But it's portable. And it's awesome.
My two cents... -
I currently use combined communite codec pack for my MKV files ect, but are they any better full packs for windows vista! -
M1530 - blu-ray - screen resolution
