Hi all, could someone with more experience/information about brightness, resolutions, etc., post a collection of pros and cons to picking the 1680x1050 resolution versus the 1440x900 on the MX1530?

I've always been of the school of thought that the higher the resolution the better, but is that really necessarily true?

Also, I like to jack up the font size in Firefox (by pressing Ctrl-+ two or three times) and tend to pick larger fonts overall .. I'm under the impression that the higher the resolution, the crisper fonts remain after getting their size increased, and I don't mind the flexibility of having small fonts as well.

Finally, how big of a difference is the brightness? For a frame of reference, I've been using an Inspiron 9300 for the most part over the last couple of years, and have found its brightness to be acceptable, but not great.

    Thanks in advance.

one con is that the text may be too small for the higher resolution

Personally i find 1680 too high...1440 is a fine balance :) For gaming 1440 will be better too.

If you like to be able to see your code and a reference book / web page at the same time then a higher resolution is definitely better. I use my old Inspiron 8600 that I'm typing on now at 1920x1200 which is perfect coding if you have good eyesight.

Now the higher resolution is available I'm planning to replace it with the XPS 1530 with the 1680x1050 display.
