Hey folks just got the M1530 2.4ghz this is myy first laptop. I have come from a PC with 2.4Ghz Quad core. Anyways the CPU is nearly always at 100%. I don't understand why I thought it was a powerful CPU. But if I watch a youtube video its at like 80% ??? Why is this. I have owned a core 2 duo inside a pc but I though they would be similar in performace for the laptop too. How do I fix this ?

did you put your power on high performance
-
Dropped from 99% to 75%. Thats still crap. Maybe I am expecting too much ? On my pc it was like 10% at the most whilst on the internet. With 2.4ghz I might aswell have got 2.0 for 3-400 pound cheaper lol. Must be a performance problem here.

im not famiar with new dell laptops but did you update it, uninstall the bloatware, and see what happens
-
Ok just to ask you have a 1.5 ghz cpu what is it like at rest mine is at 50% CPU at the desktop.
-
OH dammit the pc doesn't have a PCMIA slots. I want to use : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Creative-Tech...ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting for better sound. Dam its getting worse and worse.

"My first laptop come from a PC with 2.4Ghz Quad core" I think you are mistaken here. You can't possibly fit Quad core into M1530. Do you mean T7700 cpu? If it is, it is dual core.
The problem may come from software not the hardware. -

How was your m1530 when you got it? what is cpu like during ie ?

If it's Vista and you just got it, it might still be building the search index.

Reformat your computer and remove all bloatware. I did it and it improved alot.
I got 300 extra marks on 3dmark06 after reinstalling everything and it runs alot smoother and quicker.
Just follow the instructions

Don't read yourselfs blind on percentages people.
I had this discussion with a friend the other day.
He was like "OMG! The cores jump up to like a 100% all the time. Must be Vista's fault!"
The thing is, 100% is actually good. It means the program that is running most probably didn't need to wait for the HDD or another component in your system and will not waste time sitting around idleing...
However, if things take longer time AND your processor is maxing out, then you have a problem. -
Here is my suggestion... If you don't already have virus and spyware protection installed, install it. Also, get rid of all the crap that you know you don't want or need from add/remove programs.
Or you could just blow the whole thing out. Your call. -

you may just have a spyware install a anti-virus program and run it
edit: what did you do when you first got your computer. you may of got something without knowing it. when you first get your computer your suppose to go in the internet to micosoft's website update everything, meanwhile installing a anti-virus because this is when computers are most vonarable. install drivers. then uninstalling all the garbage it comes with. 2nd to last tweak it to your hearts content.
finally then its yours to do anything you want -
TO OP:
I see that you have Vista. May I ask what are your automatic update setting? I know it sounds weird, but I have found Vista "silently" updating itself, if you have the automatic update set up inform you about the updates instead of having it completely off.
If anyone is curious, the TrustedInstaller.exe used to boot up during startup and use up tons of CPU power, but now it isn't. It seems to have stopped once I turned automatic update completely off, or it could be the fact that I had used Vista enough or even the fact that I have all the available updates. But it can't hurt to try!
For more tweaks on Vista: A member of this forum has compiled an simply amazing guide. You can access it at this link:

Have you done the obvious and checked in the Task Manager to see what app is using all the CPU time?
By default, they do have a lot of crap running in the background so it would pay to see what is actually running (Windows Defender has an option under it's tools menu to control all the programs that run at startup). Also, if you have Nortons or McAfee installed, remove it immediately and replace it with Eset Nod32 or Kaspersky cos Nortons and McAfee can and will go nuts and 6 or so running processes are Nortons!
Don't worry about a lot of HDD access after startup. That is Vista SuperFetch filling up RAM with files it thinks you'll need. It'll take a couple of weeks for that to figure out exactly what you need. That process shouldn't absorb heaps of CPU time. -
Vista is a creature of habit. It's learning and doing internal file housekeeping to make itself run more efficiently. Sounds like AI doesn't it?
