I just bought at M1530 and won't recieve until sometime around Christmas. My worry is this. Does the dvd burner have dual layer write capacity? Also, because it is slot load, if it doesn't support DL write, am I able to buy a new internal optical drive? Also, if dell were to release a higher resolution screen for this notebook could i upgrade or am I stuck with the 1280x800? Thanks for all the help. Im starting to freak about the dvd burner.

Thanks but does that chart mean that all DVD+-RW drives support DL write capability. If you look at the tech specs on Dell's website for the Inspiron1520,for example, it specifically states the DVD+-RW supports DL write capability but on the tech specs page for the M1530 it makes no mention of the DL write support. Also, are you sure I could not upgrade the screen? It seems there is a lot of talk around the forum about upgarding the screen. Thanks Again.

As far as M1530s DVD drive is concerned, it can burn dual layer discs.

when you see DVD+-RW it doesnt necessarily mean it supports DL

if it does it usually will say so like DVD+-RW DL

i suppose it is a typo error on dell site

or using the link i gave u pertains only to xps m1530

sinstonic, how do you know it can burn dual layer discs? It doesn't say that on the website (at least as far as I can tell) and even XPS tech support wasn't sure. Surefire, how does that link prove m1530s can burn dual layer discs? Also, are you sure that I can't replace the screen? I thought there was a lot of talk about doing that if Dell released a better screen designed for the m1530?

I would assume its using the same drive thats in the M1330... And the M1330 IS dual layer capable.

Ok thanks. And what about the screen? Can it be replaced later on? Also, is the blu-ray drive offered on the m1530 write blu-ray discs or is it read only?

As for the screen, it should be able to be replaced later on. It may have a few iffy things in there though. For example you may need different inverters if the power connections vary from one screen to the other. Mounting brackets could be different but I'm guessing since these are specially made for the xps 1530, most of the design will be the same. If there is a LED replacement in the future and it's thinner like the M1330 one then that may require a completely different lid.

You also have to make sure you GPU will support a higher resolution sceen and I believe with the dedicated cards offered they certainly do, so you'll be ok in this dept.

    Can't speak for the blu-rays.

Are you positive the m1330 is dual layer capable? Why wouldn't Dell state that on their website?
