I don't know what's the deal, but my laptop writes up to 4x speed for DVDs, not any more than that on average. What's up with that? I am using Nero 8 by the way.

The authentic Sony DVD+R ver. 1.3 (1x-16x speed).

Which drive? I know my TEAC or whatever is horrible at burning ANYTHING, so I just don't bother.

Since DVD-RW's have been available, there have always been certain inconsistencies in their rated capabilities and certain media.

If Sony media isn't working, try Verbatim which are widely regarded as excellent in terms of quality and compatability. If you can, buy factory-direct Taiyo-Yuden (which many Verbatim discs are based on). They truly are the absolute best discs money can buy in terms of quality and longevity.

I second the suggestion of Verbatim. Probably the best R's I've ever used.
