So I ordered my M1530 on May 13th, got it on the 28th, found out there were a bunch of problems:
1- Back cover wasn't sealed, RAM exposed.
2- Loud optiarc drive clicking sounding like they are scratching my cds
3- keyboard bump in center
4- unlevel
So I call in for a replacement on May 29th, and they give me one business day shipping on replacement, however according to my order status, it shipped as of June 1. So... counting the days 29,30,31,1.
They took 3 days to rebuild my order? I highly doubt it. If I had purchased from the Dell outlet and its already made, yeah, that makes sense. But come on. 4 days as opposed to the weeks it took to make and ship out mine?
VERY sketchy.

Yeah, it is going to be a refurbished machine. Even though you are within the 21 day return policy, and even though they "promise" a new laptop, they ALWAYS have shipped refurb in my experiences.
I'd suggest you return both laptops if the replacement has ANY problem or blemish. Dell knows they are cheaping out by cheating you into a refurb. -
If your originally order was delayed because some component was out of stock, and then they got the shipment in so the component is back in stock, it makes sense. It is not impossible for them to build a laptop in 4 days.
-
I returned a 1420 the day it arrived for a fan problem, the rep. suggested I re-order a new laptop , which I did.
I got a new 1420 that was problem free. Maybe the issue is you have to place a new order. Hope this helps. -
No I called for a brand new replacement, so they set me up with a replacement by making a new order... that was processed rather quickly. I'm very disappointed... does Dell provide shipping labels for returns? Surely they don't expect you to pay for it...
-
They will e-mail you a return label that you can print out and slap on the box.
-
I guess thats not too bad then, but I'm still very very disappointed. When I called them up I said to the female CSR that I wanted a BRAND NEW replacement and she assured me that it was going to be re-built and will be brand new. Feels like a total lie... no... it is a total lie...
-
couldn't you just get a return and refund and then just reorder. that would be more of a hassel but you get a new system
-
I have a replacement system within 21 days, and my replacement is brand new. Dell will give you a brand new system, so I don't think you should worry about it. I don't think CSR lied to you either.
-
There is a difference in getting a replacement in 21 days compared to Dell shipping out my replacement in 3 days time... it just doesn't get manufactured brand new that fast.
-
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
could be items that were out of stock(eg battery/ LED.LCD screens) came and they could use it
returning might be cumbersome, or they might charge u a restocking fee(though i dont think they do... anyone confirm?) -
Why don't you wait till you get it and can confirm there's a Red refurb sticker on the bottom... -
Whoa thanks to this thread I think I may have gotten a refurb to. I ordered a new Vostro 1500 a couple of weeks ago. It had it's share of problems. I called CS (5/26) and they said they would build me a new one.
I checked the order status and it was in production for like 4 days. I received the replacement laptop on (5/30) with overnight shipping.
This one also has it's share of problems. The top lid creaks when you try and close the lid. I just got a weird message when powering up the system. It said that it didn't recognize my AC adapter and that I need a 65 watt adapter for proper battery charging.
The bottom of the didn't have the refurb sticker though. Does it sound like I was given a refurb and should I send it back?
p.s. Holy cow I just noticed something. It came from Lavergne TN that's where the refurb's come from. I'm now starting to feel I got snookered. -
When you purchase refurbs from the Outlet store, they always have a red refub sticker on the bottom. I doubt that Dell is trying to deceive anyone, so if the replacement arrived with no sticker, I think it's safe to assume that it's not a refurb.
As far as getting them so quickly...it doesn't take but 15 minutes to build a laptop. The delay is in the waiting for it to be built. (Or parts) Perhaps replacement systems are pushed to the front of the queue since they don't want to get you agravated waiting to the point of just returring the original system and cancelling.. -
-
As long as its perfect in every way. If I notice any faults.... I will be very disappointed. I got overnight shipping as well and the Estimated Delivery Date is tomorrow. Dell must not fail me.
-
As others have echoed, make sure that there isn't a refurbished sticker (could be yellow, red, orange, or green in my experiences) on the bottom of the sticker. Also inspect the brown cardboard box to make sure there aren't any refurbished labeles on it. Dell is not legally allowed to send you a refurbished system and claim its new and I don't think they would invite trouble by doing so. If you are really worried, you can look up the support history/status of the service tag on your replacement system to make sure there is no previous interaction with Dell. (Go to www.support.dell.com to do this, then click technical support, and the option should be on the left-hand side).
Good Luck! -
My order shipped Next Day Business as of Sunday, but the tracking info says NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME, though the Estimated Delivery date is tomorrow... Its been like this since Sunday... very sketchy.

Anyone got any idea why this is what it is?
Shipping Method: Next Business Day
Shipped Date: 6/1/2008
Est. Delivery Date: 6/3/2008
Carrier: Data Temporarily Unavailable
Tracking Number: Data Temporarily Unavailable
Do you think I will receive it June 3rd? Or will I not receive it since their is no tracking info. -
it says that until dhl actually picks it up.
-
prob recieve on the 4th
-
they may put priority on re-builds.

Stop being so paranoid. For a start the fact that the service tag isn't coming up on their system proves that this isn't a refurb because the details would already be there from when it was first shipped out to the previous owner, including when it was first shipped. Also it takes a few days from a new system build for the service tag to appear on Dell's support pages, it should be there by the time you receive your new laptop.
-
I just received my replacement today. I have brought the box in my house. Checked online again, Service Tag still invalid. Maybe they wait for the old one to be sent back? Anyway, I will be inspecting shortly after dinner. Expect a lengthy review of great displeasure.... or great pleasure.
