Looking to order an M1530 with 1440 X 900 resolution since I am in the reading glasses age. I want to get a 22in monitor (probably Dell) to connect to 75% of the time. Most 22/24in monitors are 1680 X 1050. Is there any issue in this configuration give the different native resolution, I assume are not the same? Not much gaming but Internet, MS Office use.

    Thanks

The 8400/8600 supports the 1680x1050 resolution, so you'll have no problems.

The video card should have no problem supporting a different external resolution. I plan on doing the same thing with my next laptop.

It will work just fine. You can even have it run both monitors at the same time in "extended desktop mode" where you can drag windows between both monitors for added productivity. If your eyes aren't as good i would recommend not upgrading your laptops display any however. Just leave it the default 1280x800.

When I hook up my 24" monitor to my m1530, 1920 x 1200 doesn't fit on the monitor even though that IS the monitor's native resolution. But 1920 x 1080 fits perfectly... Why does this happen?

FYI my m1530's screen is 1680 x 1050 and it has the 8600GT.

Slightly off-topic, but I thought I'd ask something here rather than creating an entirely new thread for it:

I got a new M1530 today (T9300, 8600M GT). My only problem so far, apart from coming to grips with the imposing amount of bloatware that came installed, concerns my external monitor. It is a 24" BenQ G2400W with 1920x1200 native resolution and I connect with a VGA cable, since there is no DVI port on the 8600M. When I switch to it, it shows a 1920x1200 image, but the image shimmers/flickers somewhat (difficult to describe) and is very blurry.

Is this a problem with the laptop (drivers?) or is it simply the VGA cable? I suspect it's the cable, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't something else I could do to fix it before I shell out $50 for a HDMI cable.

    thanks!

Have you tried installing the appropriate monitor drivers? Perhaps the computer is confused regarding the native resolution it should be displaying.

The shimmering is probably caused by the VGA connection. Try adjusting the pixel clock and phase on your monitor. The monitor should have controls that allow for this. You can also download monitor test programs that will display a pattern on your screen that will make it easier to make this adjustment.

I would just get the HDMI cable anyway. And if you don't feel like spending a lot of money for one. Here:

Wow, I feel dumb. All I had to do was hit the auto-adjust feature on the monitor. (Sorry)

Thanks, that helped. It's still not perfect, but I think the HDMI output will fix the issue.
