How do benchmarks and FPS figures in games compare these days with Vista and XP on the M1530 with 8600M GT? Does XP still hold a slight advantage with gaming?

I'd really like to see some benchmarks or comparisons of the two on the M1530.

I far as I've seen XP hold a 5-10% performance (fps) increase over Vista.

This difference can be minimized by doing some cleaning of there services running in Vista, but XP is always superior.

Personally I don't mind a 5% drop if I'm able to use the newer OS.

I just posted a result of just under 4200 3DMarks for the 1530 running under Windows XP SP2. I will rerun it shortly here with Vista and post the results. Frankly, I thought the numbers would be a bit better.

UPDATE I have re-run the 3dMark06 utility on this same computer running Vista Ultimate. Score: 3849 3DMarks.

That works out to right-at a 10% performance penalty for playing under Vista.

Thanks for that Dave, thats pretty interesting.

I could live with a 10% difference but I came across this chart comparing gaming on XP and Vista, it is quite old from May 2007 but shows the wide range of performance gaps depending on the game. The gaps are frankly crazy and can be massive..

I wonder how true those results are now with newer drivers that have come about for vista?
