I received my notebook yesterday and it came, ofcourse, with the dreaded SEC samsung display. I had it replaced today with an CMO1538 and my god the difference is noticable. I don't know anything about this company but the quality is so much higher. The only problem is, that it is a 1440x900 resolution instead of the 1680 which I ordered. I am strongly considering just keeping this display as the quality is exellent.

Anyone who knows anything about CMO1538?

I think CMO is Chi Mei Optoelectronics.

If you paid for a 1680x1050, you can probably call Dell and get back the difference in price.

Congratulations on getting an excellent screen though.

I'd keep the 1440 and get a credit for the price difference; I have 1680 on my last 15.4" screen, and it's too small for my daily use in the age of $150 external LCDs.

I'd take the Samsung at WSXGA over any other model at a lower resolution including LED backlit. Boy, I've seen a lot of these mess ups with the resolution. Is Dell intentionally trying to trick people? If my replacement is not 1680, I will have the tech replace the old one immediately.

When i called support for mine i gave the dell tech the XK309 part number. this is for the LG screen (i did not tell him, he told me it was an LG) they tried to tell me this was the 1440x900 screen and i disagreed with him and sent him several websites showing the resolution of that screen. He then said they were looking at the wrong video card. They are sending me a replacement screen, i should have the XK309 this week it is 1680x1050.

I have an SEC 1680 screen on my 1520, and it is stunning. There is some light leakage when the screen is all black, but the color and sharpness and clarity are phenomenal. Are the SEC screens they are putting in the new 1530s suddenly bad?

Let me share my experience with you guys. My work exclusively uses HP, and we have some Dell too. Anyway, I found out that regardless of the computer brands or monitor brands. There are always good screens and bad screens. I have seen a lot of grainy HP notebooks with LG panels. I also see a lot of excellent screens from HP with Samsung screens. There is no way to tell that the screens from particular manufactures are going to be good or bad.

I had a batch of HP laptops that had really bad screens. They were so dull, dark, and little grainy. You know what I never heard any users complained about screen qualities. They just didn’t know or they may not pay attention to the screens for whatever reasons. People in this forum may have more information about the screens or may have more experience with the computers or whatever reason. I believe that we can find good quality screens from every manufacture, but some manufactures may have higher rate of defective than others.

I had Dell E1505 WXGA with AUO screen. When I compared side by side with my current M1530 with LG WXGA screen, they are equally good. I hope you guys see what I am trying to say. I am not defending Dell or anything. I feel bad for people who have bad screen. I hope, my information would be some helps for everyone.

I've got a quick question that I'm hoping someone would know the answer to. I've got a M1530 on the way. (well, fingers crossed it should ship sometime soon)

Here's my question: If I ordered a 1280x800, (which I did) and say I get a grainy screen. Could I upgrade it to the 1440x900 in the hopes that I could get the sweet screen? Thanks.

As far as I know you cannot change the screen type unless Dell makes a mistake and sends you the wrong resolution.

I had a Vostro 1400 with a 1440x900 SEC replaced by a new system with a CMO and the CMO is way better. I compared them side by side before I returned the SEC system. Colors were a bit different but the main difference was on a white background. The SEC had a light gray/blue hue that was even slightly darker on one side of the screen than the other. The CMO did not have this and white backgrounds looked even and true white. It was VERY noticeable when compared side by side.
