Since LED backlit screens for the M1530 are already available in the US, anyone got any idea when it'll be available in the UK as well?

well, you can wait and wait and wait coz i don't think it will ever hit the uk xps m1530...your best bet will be the inspiron 1535 which will be launched on the 26th of may

    um... aren't they already available?
swear i've seen 1440x900 LED and 1920x1200 CCFL in the UK.

maybe they're just out of stock for now?
ALWAYS ring Dell and order by phone if you want something specific like an LED screen..

(i couldn't configure an XPS 420 with an 8800GTX from Dell's home site. Rang them up, they said they would have to order it in but if I didn't mind waiting it was perfectly doable.)

the inspiron 1535 is just a "copy & paste" of the xps m1530 along with a backlighted keyboard but i don't think you'll get the cool accessories which are supplied with the xps

wait a moment... but the 1525 was only released a while ago, to replace the 1520, wasn't it? And now they're releasing the 1535 to replace the 1525 that replaced the 1520 that replaced.... you get the picture.
and please don't say they'll copy the design...

Sorry, gone a bit off topic here.

Has anyone heard any more whether the UK will get the LED screens for the M1530?

It's the only thing that's stopping me from getting one at the moment...

    Thanks.

It's an option on the 1330, in Ireland anyway.

I had an online chat with a representative from Ireland last friday and I was specifically asking about M1530 regarding the LED screen availability in Europe, and his answer was "soon".

While at it, he told me that M1530 will get Centrino 2 ("Montevina") platform as soon as it's released and a new 9-series GeForce GPU, no more details on that except it's not 9500M GS

As sure as the representative who told me :) Exactly why I asked him in the first place, so I know to hold off a while as well.

I wonder what their definition of "soon" is.

I'd imagine it along the new platform release at the latest, at least that would make most sense in a refreshing view

Damn because I had placed an order already. Dell Germany had a decent offer going on (Up to 150 Euro rebate, 10% discount coupon and free delivery) circa 2 weeks ago so I thought it was the perfect time to buy a new laptop. I couldn't care less about the GPU but how much better is the LED screen than the standard CCFL one?

I hope by that by the time Europe gets LED backlit displays, the US will have 1680x1050 LED backlit.

Thanks for sharing this information, this bodes very well for the older M1330 aswell. Not least when Apple are due to refresh the similarly sized Macbooks around Centrino 2's launch.
