I know in the USA amongst other countries Dell do offer screens of 1440x900 and 1680x1050 but in the UK when i price one up the only screen i am given the option of is the 1280x800 one.
What is the reason for this? I know they offered a larger screen resolution than this in the UK before, but obviously not now. Is it because of all the problems with grainy screens and light bleed, that they have taken the option off until resolved or is it that they have just removed it permanently?

What about a phone order? Do they have the better screens if you order trough phone?
-
Yes, I just got off the phone with them about 30 minutes ago. They having problems with their website. If you phone in you get wxga+ option (1440x900) and a dell ultrasharp 1680x1050 option. Odering mine tonight.
I think the wxga+ is £30 more and the 1680x1050 is £90 more -

So i'm guessing i will have to order by phone then.

Instead of choosing Dell's Home site use the Small Business one. They offer more screen options.
Here is the link to the m1530 with 1280x800, 1440x900 and 1920x1200.

After configuring it on regular dell home, then doing it on dell business, Using the price that the 1440x900 screen is £30, the Business XPS still works out about £40 more expensive! They have put the 1920x1200 so i'm guessing they are currently fixing the site now.

I just configured the same spec m1530 using Home and Small Business The only difference is the hard drive (the home option didn't have the 320Gb option). Both have the 1920x1200 screen.
Home (all inc. VAT)
====
Base: £1,089.01
Save £100: -£100.00
Sub-total: £989.01
Delivery: £60.00
Total: £1,049.00
Small Business
====
Base: £941.56 (ex. VAT)

Sub-total £1,099.84 (inc. VAT)
Delivery £60.00
Delivery Charge Discount -£60.00
Total Price £1,099.84
The business machine ends up £40 more expensive. But this is mainly because the home one has £100 off. And the business has free delivery (£60 off).
As for the business 10% discount - it looks wrong (only 5 quid?).
The business machine is 40 quid more expensive, but it has a 320Gb drive instead of 250Gb, so personally I'd just go for the business one. -

Problem is i want the 1440x900 resolution screen though. So i might just end up phoning them up and doing it that way, since i want that screen as well as wanting to save £40.
-
Yeah, just phone them. And once it's all configured and you're happy with the spec, and they give you the final price, ask if there is anything they can do on the price. If you're polite but persistent I bet you'll get your 40 quid off.
Good luck. -

Yeah, i'll be phoning them next weekend, so i know i will be within that discount period. I was supprised they charged for shipping because when i bought my notebook from ASUS last year, it didn't cost me anything for the shipping. So i will likely bring that up.

i got free upgrade to 1920x1200
