Hey guys. I've had my M1530 for a couple of weeks now and i've noticed quite a few problems recently with my notebook. Here they are:
First of all, the noise. I don't really know if my laptop is noisy or not because i have no other comparison since this is my first, but reading from other threads i know that M1530 owners have no problem with noise. My M1530 is quite noisy in a way that i can hear the harddrive 'clicking' when accessing files. Also, almost constantly i can hear the fan, even on light tasks. It does turn off from time to time and it is very noticable when turned off. Is this normal?
Secondly, the part where the monitor hinge attaches to the body is not symmetrical on both sides. There is a noticable spacing on the left side. I try to push it in but it just flexes back. I can take pictures but i don't know where to upload them. Any suggestions?
Thirdly I have slight problems with the screen. I usually have to put the brightness settings in to full everytime i use the notebook. Also, I've noticed that it has pretty bad viewing angles. a slight forward adjustment of the monitor (around 5 - 10 degrees) will make the colours different and a bit further would make it seem 'negative'. I know for sure that i don't have the LG screen but im not quite sure who exactly is the manufacturer. I don't really know if my screen is grainy or not. It's just the viewing angles that i'm quite annoyed.
Does anyone know if I am still able to get my notebook repaired/returned? I just realized its been exactly a month since the date of purchase but not the date of receipt of the laptop. It took my quite a while to notice these things because I only got my notebook on Christmas Day.
I'd really appreciate any help I can get from you guys.
Big thanks!!
Oscar

1. The noise, I believe, isnt a problem on all 1530's. What manufacteur/size is your HDD?
2. All 1530's and 1330's have this problem. Dell says the space on the left is for easy keyboard removal/installation :S
3. I hope my 1530 wont have that problem. My 1330 doesnt.
You can contact Dell and you can send it in for a replacement or you can get a full refund -
the noise i would say is normal so is the space on the hinge.
you have the samsung screen and it probably is grainy. right click on your desktop. see what color is the menu bar that comes up. If it is greyish white you have a grainy screen if its pure white it is fine. also the brightness is also a problem i had with my grainy screen.
Im sure you can get the screen replaced. How far are you into the 21-30day exchange return period. -
I have a spacing on the right...the hard drive is a bit noisy from time to time, i have a seagate which is suppose to be very quiet. The fujitsu one i have used was really quiet no clicking noise, just some spinning sound which is normal.

The fan is really noticable when it turns and and turns off.
My monitor is CPT141F. Yes it is a greyish-white but not too greyish. I don't see any grain but I don't know if I'm just not aware of it.
My hard disk is TOSHIBA MK2546GSX.
Do you think I'd be able to get the screenn replaced with a higher resolution? I'd gladly pay extra. However, If I get a refund and take advantages of the current discounts, how long do you think this will take? I can't wait too long since I use this for school and we are currently in the middle of our exam period. -
By the way, I just realized i have backlight bleeding as well
.
Does anyone have more tips regarding my problems? I'm sure the noise from my laptop isnt normal since the clicking of the hard drive is quite loud.
Anyone also know if they just replace the screen or do they replace the whole system?
Thanks. -
With all this problems you have . PLEASE do your self a favour and send the whole thing back for exchange/ if you want to get higher resolution then return it and buy new one. trust me . do it while you can. you will sleep better.

Really? Oh man that is such a hassle. Anyone know if i can still return it after 30 days from date of delivery and not date of purchase? Thanks.

When the new computer arrives, you call DHL to pickup the old laptop.See,not so bad afterall. -
The noise is normal. The only other problem that I have is connecting a headset some static. If you just got your laptop withen the last 30 days you can return it if you are not satisfied.
-
I'm glad that the noise is normal. For one second there I thought you guys had whisper quiet m1530's. Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't get the static thing with the headset? I mean, when I connect some headphones in my notebook I get a silent constant noise thing but nothing really bothersome.

Hey guys. I've uploaded some photos for you to see.
Here is the backlight bleeding of my screen:
Here is a photo of my screen. Can you guys tell me is that screen adequate enough or should I get it replaced? The photo after this shows the backlight bleeding quite well against my wallpaper.
Here's my hinge problem. Photo after compares the other side with no spacing.
So do you guys think I should get my screen replaced? I'm worried I might get something that's even worse since many people are getting bad screens from what I've read. -
-
I agree with Fuzzy. It's obvious from the photos, so it must be worse in person. Personally, I'd make the call for replacement now rather than be mad at myself when/if it got worse after the warranty had expired.
-
Ok. I think I'm definitely getting it replaced now. I rang them but they told I'll have to wait til tomorrow til they sort it out. Hopefully it's sorted soon. My 30 days might end soon.

I found that harddrive noise too when I first got the laptop, but apparently that is the window sound cos my friend turned it off and the sound was gone. You could try that if you haven't?

Oscar, it's hard for me to tell the position of your camera in relation to the screen in your photos. The photo should be taken at an exact 90 degrees centered position in relation to the screen. If this is how you took the photos, then yes, that is way to much light bleed. If not, then you need to take correct photos.
To me, anything past the task bar at 90 degrees is too much. -
I've noticed some backlight bleed on mine as well. I'm gonna have to do a test to check for grainy screen after work. So pure white is a good indicator for the menu bar?

Does anybody else notice a slight creak when they push back their monitor all the way and then bring it forward again?
I have discovered the small XPS panel at the back actually pops out a tiny bit on the left side (not noticeable) by doing this, although I am able to push it back in.
Also like the TC I am unsure of the best way to detect grain on my screen, what do I look for?
