Is anyone planning on upgrading their own 1530 to the new Penryn processor (whenever Dell releases the Bios)? I was thinking about it myself. Last night I opened up the 1530 that is being sent back to Dell to see where and how hard the CPU would be to replace and its surprisingly easy. There is only one network of heat pipes all going to a big fan which exhausts out the back. 7 screws in total, and only one of the seven actually come off.
I'm thinking if I can score a good deal from NewEgg for a T9XXX processor, I might do it. It sucks that I paid an extra ~$40 for the T7700 as opposed to the T7500 but I would like that extra power saving from the 45nm as well as the 6MB cache.
In reality I probably wouldn't notice the difference too much, but it might be fun!
Anyone else thinking of upgrading?

You probably won't notice a difference at all, but feel free to void your warranty
-
If you had a crappy processor in there then I would say it's worth it for the extra performance you're gonna get. But when you have the T7700 I really don't think you will notice that much of a difference. Maybe a little longer battery life, but as far as raw performance you won't get that much out of a new processor.

might be worth it if you play RTSs, like SupCom...
if youre not good with computers, dont, because you might need that warranty -
i just received a replacement m1530...it has the bios A07, is this the new one? my previous m1530 was A05.
-
Yes I believe A07 is the new version of the Bios.
-
The difference in performance is not worth losing the warrenty
-
would there be a noticeable difference in battery life?

There is an issue with heat though it is more pronounced on my M1330. Mine gets positively toasty at the bottom. I would love to replace my T7500 with a T9300 just for that. I don't want to void my warranty though
-
How could Dell tell if you void the warranty though? Other than if you need to send it in to a service depot? You could alway keep your old CPU laying around and throw it in there if needing service
-
-
Well, yes if you do THAT. Most of us are po' folks though who would probably sell our old T7500s or T7700s to make up for the cost of the T9300. Unless you get an engineering sample, it is an expensive CPU.

I think it's if there is noticeable damage on the laptop itself that they would notice and void the warranty. Of course, I'm not entirely sure on that point. I'd love to update the processor asap as well, but I'm too worried about voiding my warranty.

I think it can be managed and upgrading the CPU isn't that hard although I am not sure about that. You do have to deal with three different chips. That damn heatsink is like a tri-headed dragon.

I'll be doing the upgrade. It look MUCH easier then Precison M90. Only thing is I would have to find a good price on the procssor.
