Hmmmm.... lets put it this way: Lenovo produce some of the most well-built laptops in the world. They are pretty much #1. In my opinion macintosh is better but thats just me. The graphics card in the lenovo is weak compared to the dell. The processor is not all the much better in the lenovo although it is "new gen". Ummm... customer support is amazing with IBM, they really look after their market image.

As long as you don't need HDMI, dual mic, better graphics and don't mind the R61's looks (R61 is basically a T61 without slight lower build quality) go with the Thinkpad.

However the build quality of IBM vs Dell will position IBM better. I personally love the HDMI, the dual mic (which work from across the room), high quality webcam, dual headphone ports, express card remote etc that the M1530 offers.

EDIT: Dell will have better customer support than Lenovo now that IBM is no longer involved.

EDIT: Look at pictures of the two and I think you will be convinced. That's a high price to pay for a R61.

What do you mean by the latter?

Lenovo does NOT build ALL of their lines to the highest quality on the planet. Their ThinkPads are well-engineered, but their lower-end series I would stay away from.

My opinion? I think Thinkpads are ugly as hell...and you really don't want to look at a laptop that's ugly as hell everyday...

I meant the R61 is pretty ugly and compared to a machine like the M1530 you would expect a substantial discount for the R61 vs the M1530.
