    Hey guys
My m1530 get REALLY hot on the surface above the HD where I can't even type for very long with out my wrist getting hot. Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? The area I'm talking about is left of the mouse pad.

This is normal, however I would not call the heat on my laptop REALLY hot.

put it in the freezer? laptop cooler? 4 to 6 inch electric fan when using laptop? new harddrive? combination of any of these except the first one should help. the first option will make it REALLY cold, though.

i try. but have you tried monitoring your temps? maybe if your hdd is within normal operating range and you are sensitive to heat you could wear wristbands or something to protect yourself from the heat. that or slap some ice packs below your keyboard to keep the temps down.

Hmmm... it does always increase intemperature in the left side area (HDD below) too, but it doesn't get soo hot that I can't use it... I hear that getting a 9-cell battery with the XPS M1530 made it rise up to let the cooling/heat management run better. Of course, I wish i could've done that, but you'd usually get it for longer battery life, NOT FOR A SLOPE!

I'm looking for a solution to this too. Maybe a laptop coolong pad?

Wow, than thats a strange case how you are getting hotter temps even with an open slope (9-cell battery) to let the heat release; and meanwhile I got my laptop sitting flat on the desk with a 6-cell battery--a little hot in the HDD area, but no so hot that it's unusable like yours pretty much...

42 celsius is well below the operating range of 60 celsius. i wouldn't really worry about the temp unless it ran above 50 celsius alot. it seems to me that you are sensitive to heat. and most people are a bit more sensitive in the wrist area, some more than others.

Is there anything I can (like a thermo film or something) to place it on the laptop surface to reduce some of this heat?
Also will a laptop cooler help? You know the ones that you place your laptop on and has fans?
    thanks

Mine is stable at 33-35 celsius. That's with the laptop sitting on the Zalman cooler. The palm rest on the left side is slightly warmer than the right side.

Without the cooler the palm rest is definitively warmer, the seagate 7200rpm drive do tend to run hot.

It's the same with a 5400rpm hard drive.
I have an M1330 with the 5400rmp 320GB hard drive, and the palmrest is MUCH cooler when I have the Zalman fans on.

You weren't asking me, but I do have the 9 cell battery.

What software do you guys use to monitor system temperatures? I just got Notebook Hardware Control and it's pretty sweet.

Is the XPS a hot running laptop, or are all higher end laptops running this hot.
I've got an Asus A6V (not a dual core) that runs way cooler than my xps.
What Zalman cooler do you Rhodan?

OK, I wonder if there's a cooler for laptops with the 9 cells battery. You could of course just remove the battery ...

Is there a laptop cooler that has the fans in the HDD and wireless card areas? That's where my laptop gets hot.

Also, for some reason the wireless card area gets really hot. I've got both the dell 1390W and the Intel 4965. Would it help to keep the heat down if I removed one, as I don't need 2 wireless cards?
    Thanks
