I'm wondering if I'm the only one who has this problem...

When my laptop screen is essentially at a 90 degree angle, the letters and text are very thin and difficult to read. They look somewhat faded. But when I tilt my screen back to about a 45 degree angle, the text appears darker and clearer, not faded or difficult to read at all.

I deleted Vista and am running XP with an 8400 video driver for my NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT (since Dell doesn't have a video driver for XP for this card.) Not sure if that has any impact.

    Erm...
You are aware this is normal for any laptop screen?
It's all to do with the viewing angle.

I've had many laptops and have never had this particular problem. My 5-year-old Sony Vaio is MUCH better at all viewing angles. Just wondering if a different driver or other fix is available.

Viewing angle is hardware, not software.

Right, because it has a different screen.
Drivers and/or a software fix aren't going to fix it I'm afraid.
It's a hardware issue, so if it's that bad, maybe ask for a replacement?

Wow, I just expected more for $1400. I'll call and get a replacement.

Which screen do you have. Samsung or LG?

    It's an LG screen.

Backlight consistency changes with viewing angles, but it shouldn't really make things blurry, only darker...

When the screen is upright, the white background is slightly gray and the text is thin and dark gray. At a 45 angle, the background is very bright and text is darker and clearer.

Dell said they're sending a tech with a replacement screen... though I'm not sure I want one. Too afraid it will be the Samsung and image will be worse.
