    Hello!

I wonder what is your HDD in your M1530 and if it is noisy.
I have a samsung spinpoint M5S (250Go 5400rpm) and I have the "big clunk noise with 1sec freeze" problem. I decide to change it, but I would like to be sure that the futur new drive will be silent and don't make "clicks & clacks" every 5sec.
I already tried a seagate momentus 7200.2, but it was too noisy (the headparking sounds were like small "bips").
But now, I just would like to have a drive as fast as a spinpoint without strange noise and freeze.

Could you please give a feedback of your HDD performing in your M1530? (with vista, if possible).

    Thanks!

PS: I know that most of the small click sounds of a HDD are normal operations.

I have Seagate 160GB 7200RPM and the sound it makes is negligible

    7200RPM 120GB

What I would consider acceptable noise.

When you say performance mode do you mean in the power settings or some setting in reagard to the actual HDD?

160GB 5400RPM and the drive is virtually unnoticeable.

Thank you all for your feedbacks.

From what I heard and experienced, the latest seagate 7200rpm drives have a high pitch head operating sound. Could be nothing for many people.

I wonder if the SP1 will smooth the performance of samsung drives.

I have a 200GB @ 7200 rpm Seagate HDD and I wouldn't say it makes a high pitch noise, but it is LOUD. Atleast mine is. The two I've had have be much louder than my first one. Dell is sending me a replacement HDD this, but it's a 160 GB (7200), hopefully that makes a difference.

Not sure what you're talking about. I have 2 Seagate Momentus drives - 200GB 7200rpm - and they are the best drives around IMO. I used to have a hitachi which was much louder then the seagates.

Like I said, it depends on what notebook the HDD is in.
