It's a possibility. Personally I'm surprised you can get the Duo Core in the E1705 but not the XPS.

That's part of Dell's problem with getting gamers to accept the XPS line as the "real deal". They don't even outfit it with their best components.

There's been some speculation that they'll be introducing new models towards the end of this month, not to mention rumors that they've bought Alienware - so you may want to wait.

M170 is terribly overpriced. E1705 is a much better deal.

vista is going to take a upper level video card to run all the stuff you want to run, any nvidia 6 or 7 series will be fine for that.

the Core Duos are 32-bit anyways...vista is 64-bit so u would b using a single core 64-bit processor for vista gaming

No, It won't struggle. Just the core duo (64bit, which isnt released, aka Merom) will be better.

The XPS M170 should be fine for the next 2-3 years at least. Remember that while 64-bit while offer performance advantages, it will take a good deal of time before the rest of the industry (including app/software makers) switch over to 64-bit purely - in other words, I don't think you'll see too many 64-bit games/apps after Vista 64-bit is released. I guesstimate that it'll take at least a full year or two before you'll see an abundance of 64-bit apps/software

Actually, I can customize the M170, with same specs(2gb of ram, 100GB 7200RPM HD) for the same price as the e1705. Now the e1705 doesnt even have a go7800 any more, just the x1400. Now, the m170 has the 7800GTX. Even the though the M170 is pentium M, If it was the same price, which it is now(i can get it neways), i would get it.

Whatever comes out tomorrow will be better than today. Whatever comes out next week will be better than tomorrow. That's how technology works. The M170 will play todays games really nicely. So will the 9400/E1705. Once games start stressing these systems, new systems will arrive that will play them well. If the system you want plays the games you want, then go for it!

You will be waiting indefinitely to play todays games on tomorrows hardware, or tomorrows games on todays hardware.

Nothing's a waste of money, if you feel good about buying it... otherwise, return it!
