I've gotten four blue screens o' death this morning alone. I'm hoping this isn't going to be a big hardware/return issue (just when I got my other prob ironed out!)... Here's the details.

In hibernation, the system seems to 'wake up' to a bluescreen or a reset system citing that Windows has recovered from 'a serious error'. Here's the error signature from that:

    BCCode:1000007e BCP1:C0000005 BCP2:804F587E BCP3:57A58C68
    BCP4:F7A58964 OSVer_5_1_2600 SP:2_0 Product:256_1

On the one time it bluescreened while I was actually using it (not hibernating), it said something cryptic about the network adapter just before - like that LAN was 'turned off' and showed a little iconic graphic of the CAT5 port.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with power management either for that device or the system in general... Since the common element to these crashes is, I think, having been on battery power.

Any ideas? SO not wanting to phone India over this.

Could be a memory issue. Have you added any RAM? Also, do you have any usb devices installed?

No USB other than a mouse, and when it crashed while sleeping/hibernated there was nothing connected. I myself didn't add any RAM, it came with 1GB. Mind you, this laptop is all of 3 days old.

Don't even bother trying to figure it out. Contact India... err, Dell. Get yourself a replacement. Their scripted troubleshooting may even cover this issue. You never know. :)

    since you're computer is 3 days old, i'm assuming you've done a reformat/reinstall of the OS ?

I have not. Is this something that most people do with Dells?

Most people that visit this forum reformat as soon as they get their Dells, since there is so much bloatware and trial junk programs preinstalled. However, I still stand by my earlier post: contact Dell and get a replacement. No computer should blue screen straight out of the box, regardless of what software is preinstalled.
