Just saw on Engadget.com that the M1730 will be released on August 27th(so probably won't actually receive it until October lol) And the Specs were confirmed as well. M1730 Info

To bad its kind of ugly.... but the 8700M GT....man wish they had that in the 1520's.

Doesn't sound like anything special. No SLI, and it's probably going to be loads more expensive than an M570ru or a Toshiba.

It's not so bad kinda like the carbon fibre look but ya I guess it doesn't blow your socks off with its appearance. The x7800 sure looks attractive but 17" is just way too big for me anyway.

Dell is making a huge mistake by releasing this ugly laptop. The M1710 is so much nicer. Things are supposed to get better as they evolve, not worse!

And quite honestly, this thing isn't that different on the inside than the M1710. The specs are more of an upgrade than an overhaul to the XPS gaming line. I doubt the 8700 GT is that much faster than the 7900 GT and 4 GB RAM max is pretty weak. I'm sure in a year or so notebooks will support more RAM. If I were going to build a new desktop right now, 4 GB would be the amount of RAM I'd put in it, not the maximum over the life of the machine.

Oh and I'm sure Dell has made it so that you'll have to use Vista to take advantage of the LCD :). Between Vista and the machine's crappy design, only a fool would buy it. Oh yes and no one mentioned that the notebook's starting weight is 10.6 pounds!

The 8700M-GT is actually worse than the 7950GTX. And 4GB is the max because no one has RAM sticks bigger than 2GB.

Do you think they'll reduce the price of the M1710 after the 1730 comes out?

I hope they'll bring the 8700GT or even bigger cards later also in the Inspiton 1720 or Vostro 1700 so gamers who like a more understated notebook will have choice.

I think it was fine in times of XPS 1710 and Inspiron E1705, the 1705 was also available in decent specs, more than enough for a "upper midrange" gamer like me.

It's big, it's heavy and it is very ugly, however it DOES have SLI 8700GT's AND a Physx card, not to mention the backlit keyboard.

As far as I understood, it has 1 graphics- and 1 physics-card, but no sli graphics. But maybe I'm wrong?

Apparently Dell is using a design that incorporates two graphics chips onto one card, rather than using two cards with one chip each. It achieves the same results as SLI, but without some of the restrictions.

    Kind regards

    Jonty

P.S. This is information is just based on someone else's explanation of the service manual and a photo of the two-chip graphics module.

It appears that they may utilize SLI, yes, but it has not been confirmed yet (to my knowledge).
