I've had the M4300 for about 25 days and need to make a decision about whether to keep it now. The graphics performance is very bad in Vista (uses Quadro 360m w 256M). PI's are 3.2 and 4.4 on aero and 3d. I compared it to an ASUS I saw at best buy with the Nvidia 8600m GT (256M) and it was much faster than my M4300.

Anyone know if new vista drivers will be coming for this? I tried the laptoptogo but got an error saying can not install on dell computers.

Of course an 8600GT is going to beat the 360M in the vista D3D test, the 360M is based on an 8400M GS.
Run a engineering or DCC app that uses openGL as its API and it will be a different story....under XP.
I don't know anyone who uses Vista for running openGL software, because as far as I know, its still not supported properly, and the software I use which is Solidworks can only run in software openGL mode, which is to say,it basically doesn't use the graphics card at all and does everything with the CPU...yep,vista is really a step forward....not.

If you bought this laptop for general usage or gaming,I suggest you return it as it is low powered [equivalent of 8400M GS or NVS140M]for gaming, and buy something better suited with an 8600 in it,just as I have, with my forthcoming Vostro.

You pay quite a premium for certified openGL support with the Precisions and if you don't use openGL software, its just a waste of money.

BTW,do you have the truelife screen and do you like it ?

I love the truelife screen. I'm likely going to return it and buy the Asus g1s which has the same screen (I think) and the 8600. Thanks for the advice and comments.
