    Hi,
i was wondering which of the following laptops you think would be best for the fastest possible Vista Ultimate boot times, office work, internet, music, some movies, and Photoshop.
I do not game at all.
and i was considering the following laptops with 4gb of ram: m6300 or xps m1730?
many say that 4gigs of ram is necessary for a fast vista experience, i have tried it with two gigs and am not impressed.
also do you think the x7900 processor is worth 650$ more than the t7700 in terms of speed gain in boot up and application and all.
what would you recommend as the fastest possible configuration, ie. a balance of ram and CPU power, and which notebook is best for me?
    pls help
    thanks a lot

    hi,
are there any other notebooks that you recommend that offer the x7900 or similar powered cpu's/// that are smaller or anything that offers it,
and what is the minimum graphics card that you would recommend to run vista at its full potential?
    thanks a lot

You need to tweak Vista if you want it to boot and run fast, more RAM will not particularly help.

Based on the rest of your post, I have only one recommendation: get a SSD. If you also need a lot of storage space, then get a notebook that can house two hard drives and put in a SSD for booting and app loading and a large 5400RPM for data storage, or just get an external drive for data storage.

    Not in the slightest.
If you don't game, then a GMA 950, nVidia 6100, or ATI x200.

    ok great thanks
i was thinking a lot of ram because of windows vista and multitasking.
i strayed away from SSD, because of the fact that the rpice of the drive is pretty insane, but would u say that the speed gain of an ssd for 550$ more is more worth while than that of a x7900 compared to a t7700...
    thanks

is the x7900 noticeable faster than a t7700 or t7800?
    thanks

Absolutely...the speed gain of the SSD is huge.

The processor will not help boot times, if that's what you're worried about. If you don't game, you don't need anything higher than a T7300 or so, it won't help. The SSD however will help, greatly. I would suggest 2-3GB of RAM, a T7300 or T7500, and a 32GB SSD for your OS. Then get yourself a large external HDD for everything else.

ok guys great, thanks a lot,
    i really appreciate it.
so then what are the benefits of a faster cpu?
like i am looking for the fastest possible vista experience and miltitasking, so in this case having a x7900 or a t7700 wont make any difference at all?
speed and multitasking really is only based on having a good cpu and ssd, and lots of ram...

also, if your saying that a t7500(will a t7800 or so make any difference in adobe, multitasking or office) paired with an ssd, and 3 or gigs of ram will be the fastest possible vista and multitasking set-up/
what laptops would u recommend that offer this as a possibility?
thin is nice and screen size-i like all sizes
    thanks

I wouldn't necessarily buy a SSD from the manufacturer unless price is not an object. I'd say go for something like the an HP 8510 or 8710 if you like a thin notebook.

    okay , thanks a lot.
    will check out the HP.
would you recommend then buying the SSD off ebay or something at getting it installed...is this a big job on a dell m1330 or most computers.
also does anybody know the rough retail of a 64gb SSD.
    thanks a lot
    does this void any warranties.

Installing a new hard drive is not difficult, you just need to make sure you get a compatible one (in this case you'd need a 2.5" SATA hard drive). It will not void your main warranty, though of course the new hard drive won't be covered under the laptop's warranty.
