Hello, I’m about to purchase a Dell Precision M6300 with the following specs for about 2000€. I considered other machines like the HP8710w or the M570-RU, but given the good reputation of the M90 I went for it’s successor. I want a solid machine for 3d rendering and graphic design. I know it’s not as sexy a Macbook Pro, but I can live with it. :) Well, what do you think?

    Intel® Core™2 Duo T7500 (2.20GHz 4MB L2 cache 800MHz FSB)
I hope it doesn’t whine like some of you have reported.

    Windows® XP Professional
Haven’t tried Vista, but most people say Xp Pro is still a better option. Moreover, I always turned off all the XP candy and whistles to classic.

    No business support.

    4 year complete care.

    17" WUXGA (1920 x 1200) UltraSharp display with non-reflective technology (anti-glare)
Any comment or suggestion on this screen?

    NVIDIA® Quadro® FX 1600M with 256MB dedicated graphics memory
I can’t wait anymore for the 8800M version, but I’m waiting a couple more days to order with crossed fingers.

    2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory (2*1024)
I've been thinking about getting an extra 2gb stick from newegg, but I don't know if it would be worth 150€.

120GB SATA (7,200 rpm) Hard Drive
The 160Gb is too pricey. Moreover, I have an external 250Gb HD for backups and storage.

    Intel PROWireless 4965 802.11a/g/Draft-n

    8X DVD-RW

    Thanks for your comments,

    Gabriel

    Edit: I wrote 2200€, it's 2000€.

Last week I have ordered M6300. I also don't mind about the design (most important thing is what you do on the screen, right?) and I took the same configuration with one small difference - I took 1440x screen. I am designing websites and such high resolution like WUXGA does not work best for me.

I think the price is much better comparing to HP. I also took 4 years of cover. I managed to get a total discount of £117 (free shipping + some other discount). Maybe it is not much, but still a difference.

I totally agree, but I admit I'd like the M6300 to be somewhat stylish... maybe like the alienware 9750 but without the logo on the top cover, and not necessarily black.

Good luck with your purchase! :)

I agree. The style should go a bit more towards news 13" XPS. It is state of the art. I would love to have a nicely designed laptop but it is for business and I need to first think about performance and reliability. Let me know when you order. I am wondering what will be your EDD.
