I will be getting a replacement for my desktop at work. I run mostly solidworks and spreadsheets.

Has anyone seen the WUXGA on the M65? How does this LCD compare to the SXGA+? What is the surface finish for each (AR or AG...ie glossy or matte)?

I always enjoy extra resolution, but wanted to make sure that the WUXGA won't be too small for a 15.4" screen. Currently, I run dual 19" lcds at 1280x1024.

    thanx!

haven't seen it but i know wuxga is pretty tiny on a 15.4" screen. and all latitude screens are matte.

If you are used to running that resolution on an external monitor it might be a bit of a stretch for you to use a WUXGA LCD, it's alot of pixels for a 15.4 inch monitor. Maybe there is a computer store near you that you can go to and check out their monitors. WSXGA+ will likely be a better fit.

personally, I don't even want WUXGA on a 17" monitor. 19"-20" is fine, but anything lower than that and i'll want WSXGA+

    i agree. though i'd take a 17" with wuxga, i'd never take wuxga on a 15.4"

The WUXGA is a stupid resolution - fonts are far too small, especially for anyone over 30. Yes, you can boost the DPI, but not all programs honour this, and it can screw up the window geometry.

I run WSXGA (1680x1050) on a 15.4" D820, at 120 dpi, and fonts are still a bit small. However, since I usually dual to a external 19" (1280x1024), any larger would make the fonts on the 19" ridiculously large.

Caution: there are problems with screen brightness and poor colours on the D820 screens - but not as bad as the D620s.

it's a personal preference. i run wuxga on a 15.4 and it's perfect. i would never get anything lower as it just looks silly to me.

your best bet is to go check it out in person since everyone has different preferences.

if you run 1280x and you don't like any higher resolution, it think it's quite obvious that you won't like wuxga.

So is the 15.4" WUXGA in the M65 the same panel as in the D820? If so I guess it is a AG finish (as posted earlier). Too bad. I really like the benefits of an AR coating. Oh well, I can just as easily get it laminated.

I am still pretty young, and crave screen realestate. Still though, it seems as if most people prefer the lower resolution to the UXGA. Maybe there are those lurkers that haven't spoken up yet.

Thanx for the help guys...keep em coming!

    Cheers
